I started my 4 years at Reagan during COVID so I never really got the "High School Freshmen" experience per se, but they did the best they were able. However, when we finally returned to school, I saw the passion most of the teachers had for their students and the love and pride that went into this school. I'd say I had a different experience than most, but I most definitely would recommend this school to anyone in this area. If I had to change one thing, I would want the change where some of the funding goes. I'm more involved in the arts programs here at Reagan, and we do get advertisements from our principal but not much funding. Most of the funding goes to the sports which is okay, but I would like to see more of an effort be put in by the administration for the arts program so that you can open up more diversity for the students who are more interested in doing arts than sports!
Reagan high school is a place where they put the students above all else in terms of education and safety. While I do have my issues like lackluster teachers but they teach the curriculum so that's all that really matters. Although I haven't lived a very long life I want to say that the past four years have been the best ones I've lived so far, this is mainly due to the people I've met within the past couple of years. The best part of the school is that they don't constantly baby the students where they know we are already or becoming adults which gives us responsibilities which we take care of. The worst part would be the opposite when we are constantly monitored where teachers are stationed out in the halls, I understand that it helps keep students from skipping class or just roaming the halls but it just feels like we're being monitored all the time. The things I would like seen changed is just giving students more freedom earlier on and having a little more student for students.
Regan high school is one of the most academically successful schools in Winston Salem. It is a diverse, safe, and encouraging school that pushes its students to strive for success not only in academics but also in life. It may not be perfect but nothing is, there are few students and teachers that don’t put in the same effort as the rest of us but the majority of us “bleed” TEAL (timeliness, encouragement, accountability, and liability).
