Product Description
The Oregon Territory: wild and lawless in the time before statehood. A new Army commander, Major Archer (George Montgomery), is dispatched to bring order and peace to the region. But who is his greatest adversary? The native Indian chief who has led his braves to victory over several of Major Archer's predecessors, the local barons who oppose the move to statehood, or the fiercely independent daughter (Academy Award nominee Martha Hyer, 1958, Best Actress in a Supporting Role, Some Came Running) of the battalion sergeant who takes orders from no man? Newly remastered.

quickly earns the respect of his officers and men as well as the Indian Chief Mike. The voice he uses for his portrayal of the stern
Major is wonderful. There are some hilarious scenes involving the Indians and the dialogue is very sophisticated for a movie of its time.
The dialogue between Chief Mike and two of his braves is just pure fun when the braves are relating their experience with the "terrible weapons"
that the major used against them. The flirting scenes between Montgomery and Martha Hyer are great. The supporting cast is great and the
scenery is beautiful. Montgomery was an excellent horseman but watch for a scene when his horse spooks while he is trying to mount.
He can't get on the horse so he is hanging onto the saddlehorn while the horse is moving. The scene quickly fades so if you are not paying
attention, you will miss it. A movie worth buying for your collection.
Directed by William Castle
Cavalry Major Frank Archer (George Montgomery) is assigned to protect the settlers in Oregon territory and to this end, he tries to find out why the previously peaceful Indians have suddenly become warlike. What he doesn't know is that duplicitous settler Stacey Wyatt (Richard Denning), working in concert with crooked land speculator Matt Parrish (Charles Evans), has been deliberately aggravating the Indians so that the other whites will be driven out of the territory, thereby allowing Wyatt and co. to plunder the land's rich mineral deposits.
Montgomery is the handsome, stalwart and charming, even through his icy exterior, playing this with a zero-tolerence, by-the-book Major who comes to an Oregon fort with orders to solve the Indian problem.
As militia leader with a hidden agenda. Richard Denning rises to the occasion with a multi dimensional performance, who is always in there pitching.
Director William Castle gives the B-Western fans a good, fast and fun ride within the trails of the Oregon territory.
