Lourdes' Peterson gets 1,000th point in victory

Sara Peterson scored her 1,000th career point for Rochester Lourdes on Tuesday in the Eagles' 64-35 win over Winona Cotter.

Peterson, a 5-foot-8 senior guard, reached the mark in the second quarter on an underhand scoop shot. The game was stopped, and she was given a basketball. She finished with 15 points.

``She's a good all-around player,'' said Lourdes coach Myron Glass. ``She's improved over the years. Teams key on her a lot.''

Peterson, who is averaging 17 points per game, has been the Eagles' leading scorer the last two years and is in her fourth year on the varsity. She is the fifth in the program to reach 1,000 points, behind Stacy Sievers (2,165), Lori Lawler (1,655), Laurie Decker (1,436) and Rachel Horgen (1,021).
