Paradise Valley: Book 7 of Virgin River series Kindle Edition

Welcome back to Virgin River with the books that inspired the hit Netflix series…

Marine corporal Rick Sudder is home early from Iraq—his tour ended abruptly on the battlefield. The carefree boy is gone, replaced by a man who believes his future is as bleak as his mirror image. But can the passion and commitment of a young woman who has never given up on him mend his broken body and shattered heart?

As the people of Virgin River rally around Rick, another recent arrival tests the tightly knit mountain town’s famous welcoming spirit. Dan Brady has a questionable past, and he’s looking for a place to start over. He’d like it to be Virgin River…if he can find a way in. But he never expects to find it in the arms of a woman who was as much an outcast as himself.

For a favorite son returned from war and an outsider looking for a home, Virgin River offers them a chance to make peace with the men they once were…and to find the dreams they thought they’d lost.

Don't miss Robyn Carr's next uplifting novel, The Friendship Club, where four women come together at a tumultuous time in their lives, forging an unbreakable bond that will leave them all forever changed—available January 2024!

From Booklist

Rick Sudder, who joined the Marines to escape his past, returns from Iraq a sullen and withdrawn amputee, pushing away the town’s concern and support—especially that of Jack, who raised him, and Liz, his almost-fiancée. Dr. Cameron Michaels is now settled in and discreetly courting Abby, who is carrying his twins. And General Walt Booth, who supported Muriel when she was offered the acting role of her life, is discovering that sometimes it’s harder to be the one waiting at home. Loyal readers of Carr’s Virgin River series will enjoy catching up with their favorite characters and will be intrigued by the returns of the mysterious Dan Brady and Cheryl, the former town drunk. Carr pulls out all the emotional stops for the seventh in her popular contemporary-romance saga featuring the drama-rich Northern California mountain community, tying up loose ends while intimating future stories. --Lynne Welch

Book 7 in Robyn Carr's Virgin River series is Paradise Valley which has four stories running simultaneously. First, a continuation of the growing attraction between Dr. Cameron Michaels and Abby Crawford who, after their one-night stand in Grants Pass, is expecting twins. A crazy prenup has Abby trying desperately to drop out of sight, because her divorce settlement requires her to remain chaste in order to receive alimony-money she desperately needs to pay off staggering credit card debt incurred by her ex-husband.

Cam has spent some time searching for Abby-the time with her has made him realize he wants her in his life. Finally, he moves to Virgin River to take over the old doctor's practice...and runs smack into Abby who is hiding out at Vanni's and Paul's until her babies are born. Thus begins a tenuous relationship with Cam trying to win her trust.

The second story is about Rick Sudder, Jack's protegee, who has gone to Iraq. When his platoon is ambushed, he suffers serious injuries and loses a leg. Jack and his girlfriend Liz fly to Germany to see him, but Rick has problems dealing with his loss. When he returns to Virgin River, he's not the same boy. Liz still loves him but he won't allow that love to grow and he pushes her away. Counseling helps, but it's not until a confrontation that Rick comes to see that he's the obstacle in their relationship.

Story three (and my favorite) brings a man never before named in earlier episodes into the light. Dan Brady, once a pot grower, has done time and is ready to resume the life he had before he made bad choices. He returns to Virgin River and is hired by Paul Haggerty on his construction crew. Little by little, the details of Dan's life come out, and gradually, he draws closer to the bar regulars. I like Dan's character and his wit-Ms. Carr has made him a wonderfully likable character.

Dan rents the Creighton house. Mr. Creighton has gone to live with a brother, Mrs. Creighton has passed away, and Cheryl, formerly the town drunk, has sobered up and is in rehab and holding down a job in Eureka. She wants nothing to do with the falling-down place except to rent it to someone who will help her make the tax payment on it. Dan jumps at the chance, even though the old place needs lots of work. They strike a deal and Dan begins to rehabilitate the house in his spare time. He finds Cheryl attractive and a friendship develops. Sunday afternoons find them sharing sandwiches at a park in Eureka where they talk about their experiences and enjoy each other's company. Dan is attracted but decided to play it slow since Cheryl isn't ready for anything more than friendship.

Walt Booth struggles with being separated from Muriel who is in Montana filming a movie. Finally, out of fear of losing her, he flies to see her for a long weekend and finds he isn't at all out of place there. Thus begins a series of visits where their love for each other grows.

Rick and Liz make plans for the future that include being together. Abby delivers twins and she and Cam make plans to be married. Walt and Muriel grow closer than ever and I suspect, we'll see more of Dan and Cheryl in a future story.
Ms. Carr has superbly woven these threads together into a satisfying book. Do your self a favor and get the entire series and read them in order.

Two thumbs up on this one.

Despite the fact that it is not marked as #7, this book picks up where #6 leaves off. This is a book book by a good author.

Okay, so let's tell the truth first, Abby and her small little tamtrums? Yeah, I was annoyed even during the previous book. Rick with his issues (although I understood them) I got annoyed, but Carr just has such an amazing way of writing people trying to work through their pain with (or without) loved ones. The ending was also sweet, and I love how the books always end with a direction of who we might read about next. The drama is drama-ing and I am enjoying it!

This review is not necessary but I have to say....I have been a resident of Virgin River since the beginning. I have seen this little one bar stop on the side of the mountain become a community of loving, caring people. I loved the first story of Mel and Jack and I was hooked. Each book is like going back home to see everyone and catch up with their lives. They are all ex military men and I love that. They all have a lot in common. They have hurts and pain and issues to work through but they do it with a little help from their friends. I love each guy. They are all great heroes.

The women are all strong characters, ready to love a good man and spend the rest of their life being happy with him. If you read any reviews you will know what this book is all about so I won't go in that. I just want to add my ...I LOVED IT to the rest of the readers. I can't get enough. Just hate that I have to wait between installments to find out what new is happening in Virgin River. I love this series and HIGHLY recommend it. It helps to read from the first but you don't have to. Each book stands on its own. A great read. Just be warned, once you start reading you will not be able to put it down unless the battery in your ereader runs down and you have to recharge!!! GREAT read, I loved it.

I love this series and love getting to know the new characters. I felt a little like this was too many introduced all in one book, but loved each and every one of them by the end.

The Virgin River books are heartwarming but not sappy. Plots are lively but not unrealistic. The writing itself is intelligent but not highbrow.

I found Robyn Carr by accident... right after I received my Kindle, the first four books of the Virgin River series were a featured 'on sale'. What a bargain! and what a find! I find myself completely woven up in the lives of those who live in Virgin River. Robyn has made me feel like it is a place I've visited, like they are people I've met. Paradise Valley is excellent example of that. Those who have read other Virgin River stories will be pleased to see the appearance and redemption of Dan Brady, the former pot grower who has been too good a guy to be a bad guy. Those who felt sorry for Dr. Cameron losing Vannie to Paul will be glad to see him make his home in Virgin River and fall in love with Abby. And your heart will go out to Rick and Liz, dealing again with more heartache than any young couple should have to face. Visit your friends Jack and Preacher at the bar again! And enjoy 'Paradise Valley'!

My love for this author might have started with Netflix but with each book, I read the characters fill me with wonder.
The book was an emotional one as this is a character we have already leant so much about and they feel like family. I love the way the author gives us a new romance in each book but she doesn't forget the characters we have falling in love with as we get to see their ongoing life in Virgin River and beyond.
