- Jen WFenton, MI289 contributionsYou can do this museum easily in an hour. One floor was under construction when we visited. There was an interesting exhibit about the forgeries of MacDonald paintings. The lockers are free and convenient to use.Written February 20, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- bucketlisttravellersSydney, Australia3,655 contributionsThis art space aims to provide leadership to young people to be curious and become 'makers'. It is a small space downstairs in the main display area, but still worth a pop in for 10-20 min to have a look around.Written December 24, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - bucketlisttravellersSydney, Australia3,655 contributionsThe Republic gallery is a small gallery with around 6-10 pieces all concerned with the same theme. Without context, it was hard to fully appreciate the work and it was good that we found the accompanying commentary. We found it really interesting to see how the post cold war brutalist architecture was being hidden behind a facade of styrofoam Baroque style trappings, effectively creating a false history.Written December 24, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Amanda M7 contributionsThe store is super crowded and hot. Went twice during my stay in Vancouver and both times almost passed out from the heat. Turn up the AC!!!!Written August 21, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- ScoogeSurrey, Canada29 contributionsWe were looking for a specific type of souvenir for our grandkids and heard about this place on Yelp. Excellent selection, reasonable prices and most of all the proprietor was so friendly and helpful. We actually had a good time shopping!! This is the place to go for souvenirs!!Written January 29, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- PookyCakeVictoria, Canada14,286 contributionsAfter a 3-year hiatus, Chapters – now rebranded as Indigo – has returned to Robson Street. When the original flagship location at 788 Robson closed in early 2015, I was disheartened and sad. Where would I now go to explore my imagination and expand my mind? Where could I amble about and find a quiet, relaxing reprieve from the concrete and glass jungle that is Vancouver? Where could I go and find virtually every book on my wish list? Those were the practical reasons for my lament, but then there were also those personal reasons; namely, the development of good memories created from 2008 up until the flagship’s closure in January 2015.
It’s quite remarkable how a store and building could be imbued by us with such memories and personal feelings. But I know I’m not alone in this. When Chapters had its “closing out” sale at the beginning of 2015, droves of citizens, inclusive of media giants, were on hand to bid farewell to a key component of Robson Street and Vancouver art-culture. Chapters said they’d be back at some point. In the meantime, they established a temporary outpost, as IndigoSpirit, on Granville in August 2015.
It took a few years, but Indigo (as they’re now called) delivered on their promise to return to Robson Street. They opened a new flagship store in November 2018 at 1033 Robson to much fanfare and applause. Vancouverites and booklovers in general now had a place to satiate their bibliophilia. At two levels, and with 29,000 square feet of retail space, the new location isn’t as large as the original at 788 Robson (which had 3 levels and an impressive 59,000 square feet of retail space), but it’s sure to please all who visit it. The new flagship store features a smart contemporary design reflective of the West Coast – something I quite appreciate and give points for. The old location, I admit, was pretty “standard” in terms of atmosphere; the new location, on the other hand, is vibrant and fully embraces the cultural space in which it’s situated. The beautiful murals of BC’s lush forests along the store’s escalator atrium highlight this poignant fact. Importantly, the new location still offers the diversified retail experience initially started in the old flagship store: Along with over 50,000 books, Indigo also has an attractive selection of gifts, home products, fashion, accessories, sundries and even electronics available. Think “above average” stress Eggplant ;)
A funny aside: When I first got word of the new Indigo opening in November 2018, I decided to skip the first few weeks, realizing it would probably be a madhouse (and according to media coverage at the time, it was). Come mid-December of that year I finally decided to patronize the new store and see if my love for “Chapters on Robson” could be rekindled. I hit Google maps to get the address and a location on Granville, adjacent to Robson, popped up. Thinking this was the new flagship, I set on my way. Arriving at “IndigoSpirit” I thought, “This is it? This is the flagship? It’s tiny and crowded!” Quite let down and dejected, I did a quick walk-thru and decided I’d stick to the Indigo at Metrotown. The funny bit? It was only about a month or so later that I learned the location I attended at 810 Granville was NOT the new store, but was instead the “temporary” location and it had been in place since August 2015 (shows how out of the loop ol’ PookyCake can be!). The IndigoSpirit closed in February 2019.
Anyway, I eventually made it to the new Robson store for the first time in July 2019, and have been back a handful of times since then. On the whole, I like the store. It is clean, well laid out and very well stocked. The few times I’ve gone, I’ve had the good fortune of finding ALL the books on my shopping list plus a few extra items . . . again, think a squishy “above average” stress Eggplant. Beyond the good shopping experience, I appreciate that this Indigo embraces its environment and still pays homage to classic and contemporary Canadian authors (Atwood and Coupland, for example). The communal reading space found on the third floor of the “old” flagship has been downgraded to a communal table of sorts on the upper level of the new store, but that’s a small gripe. The expanded, on site Starbucks makes up for it.
Really, if I had anything to complain about, it would just be that the new location isn’t at 788 Robson. As such, it is a bit further down “Vancouver’s runway” and not as convenient for me personally. Because of that, I’ll probably continue patronizing the Indigo at Metrotown, but that’s not a knock at this new location . . . just more of a personal preference.Written February 18, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - on_the_go_98765Tucson20,631 contributionsWe love, love, love this library and really enjoy walking around the plaza of shops on the main concourse level. The "Friends of the Library" book resales provide an excellent opportunity to explore some new authors and pick up used books for $1 to $3 dollars (CAD in this case).
The Book Mark shop is both a "Friends" resale book store and a gift shop with t-shirts, souvenirs, and various other interesting merchandise.
Fortunate for us, we were staying across the street at Rosedale on Robson so there was no reason at all to miss stopping here.Written August 31, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The selection and quality are great but the shopping experience put a damper on everything and I chose to go to Norstrom’s instead.Written July 4, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
