BlockStarPlanet is a Danish MMORPG/Sandbox video game developed by MovieStarPlanet ApS. It was released on July 6th, 2014. It is also known as BSP.

History[]

BlockStarPlanet was formerly known as RoboBlastPlanet (Or RBP). The game was released on November 20th, 2014. Many of the features and things in the game today, had different names back then.

Back then, the whole point of the game was to build robots and blast players in battle, and other things were very different as well.

To this day, the game is best known for its building system. The game has over 15 million registered users with around 2 million playing monthly.

Name Change[]

MovieStarPlanet changed the name from RoboBlastPlanet to BlockStarPlanet on March 16th, 2017[1].

Other changes included:

  • NPCs were given names.
  • Robots were renamed to BlockStars.
  • Robot Parts were renamed to BlockStar Parts, then to Skins.
  • Chassis were renamed to Legs.
  • Microchips were renamed to Battle Powers.

Phase 2 Update (Switching to Unity)[]

Phase 2 is currently the mainstream (but beta) version of BlockStarPlanet, available on most web browsers at the official website, and on mobile. The most notable difference in this update was that it switched game engine to Unity, since Adobe Flash 3DS Max (the previous one) was discontinued. It was released on November 3rd, 2021 for browsers, and January 31st, 2022 for Mainstream platforms.

It comes with many notable changes, including:

  • Changed game physics.
  • Positioning of XP, Coin and Diamond counters.
  • A new message and friends layout.
  • A new UI for crafting.
  • New (slightly improved) textures, such as fonts, crystals & blocks.
  • A new login screen.
  • A "Me" button to quickly change your current BlockStar.
  • BlockStar Parts being renamed to "Skins" with two size options, "Accessory" and "Full Body".
  • Using "Easy" BlockStar editing now has Player-made Skins to choose from.
  • The ability to use "Advanced" BlockStar editing and Skins now require VIP.
  • A noticeable difference when placing blocks with the plastic block sound.
  • Fixed bugs, and created more. (See Bugs)

Overall, this is a very influential, yet controversial update. influential as it allows BlockStarPlanet to have better PC Controls, and to be continually updated, but controversial as some features are either not in the same location, locked behind a paywall or have been removed, most physics have changed, which leads to the major bugs/framerate issues. this caused the game to lose 40% of it's original active fanbase.

Gameplay[]

The point of the game is to play and build with friends, here are some things you can do:

  • Explore: Explore other builds and creations made by other players.
  • Chat: Chat with friends and message them.

These are the BlockStarPlanet Basics, some other features include Seasons, Quests, Pets and the Shop.

Trivia[]

  • The original idea for the game was most likely created by Thomas Storm.
  • There is some retired music, you can find it by looking up RoboBlastPlanet 2015 and find a video by BlackKnight777. It shows the old menu music before Nexus was released. However, Kinawaiio found it and you can listen to it on his YouTube Channel.
  • The game was made using the Adobe Flash Engine from 2014-2020, which wasn’t really meant for 3D games. In order to use the 3D models in Flash, they had to use 3DS Max, Later in 2021, Decided to Switch to Unity.
  • The game was previously programmed with ActionScript3, Now in CSharp.
  • Originally, the game was called “BuilderGame” in early development. But it was later changed later in development.
  • The game was originally supposed to appear on MovieStarPlanet as an extra game (such as casting, crazy cards, etc..), which is why the icon appeared for a short time in 2014.
  • Previously, there was a map in the game in the top right, which was removed in early 2016. On the map you could see where the other players are.
