NCIS: ORIGINS Adds Robert Taylor as Gibbs’ Father

NCIS: ORIGINS continues to fill out its roster, casting Robert Taylor as Gibb’s father and Daniel Bellomy and Caleb Martin Foote in recurring roles.
Taylor will fill the role of Jackson Gibbs, Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ “hard-nosed” father. His casting was announced alongside Bellomy and Foote.
Bellomy will play the role of Special Agent Granville “Granny” Dawson, “a ‘probie’ who’s cutting his teeth as the Evidence Custodian’s assistant, all the while itching to work his way up to the ranks to field agent,” per TVLine.
Meanwhile, Foote joins the ranks as Special Agent Benjamin “Randy” Randolf, the “golden boy” “tasked with showing the newly minted agent Gibbs the ropes, this father of young twins is thankfully practiced in patience,” TVLine added.
The show has previously cast Austin Stowell as Gibbs, Mariel Molino as Special Agent Lala Domingue, Diany Rodriguez as Special Agent Vera Strickland, and Tyla Abercrumbie as Field Operation Support Officer Mary Jo Sullivan. Kyle Schmid leads the team as Mike Franks. Mark Harmon will not appear on the show but will serve as the narrator and executive producer.
“Narrated by Mark Harmon, NCIS: ORIGINS begins in 1991, years prior to the events of NCIS. In the new series, Gibbs starts his career as a newly minted special agent at the fledgling NCIS Camp Pendleton office where he forges his place on a gritty, ragtag team led by NCIS legend Mike Franks,” Deadline reported as the show’s description.
The idea for the show came from Harmon’s son Sean, who has seen his father play the role of Gibbs for 20 years. Sean has also served as a younger version of Gibbs on NCIS in the past, causing him to wonder about the stories that could be told from Gibbs’ past.
NCIS: ORIGINS is expected to begin airing Fall 2024.

NCIS star Sean Murray is sharing his thoughts on the upcoming prequel series NCIS: ORIGINS.
“I was aware of it before it got going. I knew about the initial ideas of it and stuff, but NCIS: ORIGINS sounds to me something that could be very, very cool,” he told TV Insider. “I mean, Gibbs in the early days of NIS and back when it was called NIS and not NCIS, I think that will be really interesting and I’m looking forward to seeing it.”
In a statement announcing the show, CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach said, “We are elated and honored to continue the expansion of the NCIS universe in such a unique and unexpected way. Viewers can look forward to Mark Harmon returning to CBS to narrate the complex and mysterious backstory of Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ early years in NCIS: ORIGINS, which will build on the rich legacy of this character while reintroducing fan-favorite characters and meeting new ones.”
Murray revealed that he has “talked to Mark a little bit about it,” adding, “I know he’s excited about it.”
