Robert De Niro is the best trainer in the boxing biz in the trailer for Hands of Stone.
“I’ve trained more world champs than anyone else in boxing history, I haven’t stepped into a ring in more than a decade,” he explains. “In 66 seconds, Roberto Durant changed my life.”
Directed by Venezuelan helmer Jonathan Jakubowicz, the sports drama centers on Edgar Ramirez as real-life boxer Duran, a Panamanian fighter who made his professional debut in 1968 as a teen and retired in 2002 at the age of 50. In June 1980, Duran defeated Sugar Ray Leonard (played by Usher Raymond) to capture the WBC welterweight title, but shocked the boxing world by returning to his corner in their November rematch, famously saying the words “no mas” (“no more”).
Ana de Armas, Ellen Barkin and John Turturro also star in the film.
The Weinstein Co. will release Hands of Stone in theaters Aug. 26.
