Robert Maillet

Born in Georgetown, Ontario, Robert Maillet relocated to Ste-Marie-de-Kent with his family before his first birthday. As an Acadian actor and retired professional wrestler, he is renowned for his tenure in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) from 1997 to 1999. Performing under the ring name “Kurrgan,” he was part of The “Truth Commission” and “The Oddities.”

Maillet trained with Bret Hart, Leo Burke, and Stephen Petitpas, making his debut in 1989 as the “Acadian Giant” for Atlantic Grand Prix Wrestling. For years, he competed in Canada, Japan, and South Korea under the name “Goliath El Gigante.”

On November 11, 1991, Maillet first appeared in the WWF as “The Cajun Giant” and defeated Bob Bradley in a dark match during a television taping in Utica, NY. After spending time in Japan with the W*ING promotion as Goliath El Gigante, he joined the WWF in 1997 as part of The Truth Commission with “The Jackyl.” Known as The Interrogator, the group initially performed in the United States Wrestling Association (USWA) before joining the main WWF roster. Maillet’s ring name later evolved into Kurrgan, a heel character known for using the Iron Claw on his opponents.

Following The Truth Commission’s disbandment, Maillet (as Kurrgan) continued as a singles wrestler managed by The Jackyl. He later joined The Oddities, The Jackyl’s new stable, which eventually turned face and became fan favorites. Maillet also participated in Jacques Rougeau’s wrestling events as Kurgan and wrestled Jim Duggan on July 8, 2005.

In addition to his wrestling career, Maillet has appeared in various films, including the 2006 film “300,” where he portrayed the Über-Immortal.

While filming a fight scene for the 2009 film “Sherlock Holmes,” he accidentally punched Robert Downey Jr., who later recounted the incident on the Late Show with David Letterman.

Maillet’s other film credits include “The Big Bang” (2011), “Monster Brawl” (2011), “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters” (2013), “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones” (2013), “Hercules” (2014), “Deadpool 2” (2018), and “Game Over, Man!” (2018). He also had a recurring role in the Syfy-TV original series “Haven” as a “Heavy,” a thug working for the series antagonist..
