Marie Harris Harrell, born in 1940, entered into eternal rest on February 20, 2024, at Sentara Leigh Hospital.
Marie was a native of Norfolk, Virginia, the firstborn of eight to Gilbert Harris, Sr. and Rosa Harris.
Marie was a member of Booker T. Washington’s class of 1958. Marie was committed to education and after many years, returned to Norfolk State University and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in 1999.
Marie was hardworking and worked in many different fields for a variety of companies, retiring from the Norfolk Naval Base in 2007.
One of Marie’s many loves was bowling, she belonged to a number of bowling leagues where she excelled. Marie also belonged to a number of community and social organizations, including the Les Superbs and the
Tri-City Tours. Marie leaves to mourn her passing, her three children,
William E. Harrell, Jr., of Alamogordo, New Mexico, Tina Marie Smith [Charles] of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, and
Eric M. Harrell of Alexandria, Virginia. Marie has seven grandchildren, Daniel, Shawn, Tasha, Charles, III, Mason, Paige and Kyra. Three great grandchildren,
Shawn Jr., Ky’Del, and Bri’Shay. Her faithful and trustworthy friend, Otelia Cherry (Sack), who was a second mother to her kids and became a part of the family.
She has seven siblings, Lawrence Harris, Sr., Rita Keels, Gilbert, Harris, Jr.,
Alfonzo Harris, Gwendolyn Seawood, Mary Miller, and Curtis Harris, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins,
and lifelong friends Sandra Fenner and Ernest Jones.
