'Fame is pretty meaningless': Riverdale star Camila Mendes shares it was fun being a celebrity at first but did not lead to her feeling 'fulfilled'

Riverdale actress Camila Mendes shared in a new interview that 'you can use fame as an act of revenge.'

The 27-year-old posed for a sensational glamour spread in Elle and dished about the upsides and shortcomings of being a celebrity.

'Fame is great as a tool for saying: "Look at me now." And I definitely felt that way in the beginning of my career,' she candidly revealed.

'I was like: "Hey, all the exes that screwed me over! All the friendships where we had a falling out! Look! Being separated from you has actually been very good for me!"'

She added: 'But at the end of the day, that is not real. Fame is pretty meaningless. There’s not much value there in terms of how you’re actually doing in your life, or how fulfilled you feel in your own life, or even how good your work is, right?'

Said she: 'It’s like: "Cool, cool, you’re famous. And?" That doesn’t mean you’re happy or fulfilled…no matter how many people follow you on Instagram.'

Along with keeping her a level head about fame, Camila  - who has 26.8 million Instagram followers - has made sure to retain a level of work-life balance.

''That [mentality]: "I suffer for my work" comes with some egotistical pride. But you have to do [it], to separate yourself from your character, and separate yourself from the emotions that might come up in a scene,' she said.

'It’s vital to your mental health...that’s why we have training. I went to school to learn how to be the best actor I can be, and learning to separate myself from the work is part of it,' said Camila, who went to the arts school at New York University.

One segment of her Riverdale celebrity has been her friendship with her co-stars Madelaine Petsch and Lili Reinhart.

The trio share a Tik Tok account but 'don't work' together on their television program 'that much anymore' as 'Our characters don’t really interact.'

She spilled: 'So we don’t get to see each other on set, which sucks. Getting us all together, logistically, is very difficult. And we’re also very lazy. Our TikTok was so last-minute and so thrown together...every once in a while, I’ll have an idea, but if you’re not careful, it can be a full-time job, and we already have those.'

On the personal front Camila began dating her Riverdale co-star Charles Melton in 2018, only to split from him the following year and then reunite last summer.

'The break was nice for them and they reconnected on set of Riverdale,' an E! News source dished in June as it emerged they are back on.

'Being around all of their mutual friends and hanging out together often made them realize they still have a strong connection and chemistry.'
