How Many Reticulated Python Morphs Are There?
Considering that Reticulated Pythons have the widest range of any type of snake, it’s safe to say that there are many different types of square-patterned pythons – like a couple hundred different types!
The reticulated pattern is the dominant feature of all reticulated Pythons and is passed along to the hatchlings, regardless of morph. It would take a strong set of genes from another dominant snake form to overpower this popular characteristic.
Therefore, hundreds of various forms of reticulated pythons have been created over the decades with many more to be created with the prominent block-pattern feature.
15 Reticulated Python Morphs
Normal Reticulated Python
As the basic form, the Normal reticulated python presents with a dark brown to black base color adorning it’s entire body.
Even its eyes are a nice mahogany brown, which is a staple feature of Normal reticulated pythons!
The reticulated pattern of this python shows itself in an oval shape that continues in separate patches from the crown of its head to the tip of its tail.
This is a popular morph because of the large size that it can grow into, and because of its docile and even-tone temper.
Tiger Reticulated Python
There are many sub-morphs of Tiger reticulated pythons because of their standard bodily design.
They have various shades of tan, brown, and dark brown that stripes down their body in an even manner to create an evenly dressed mahogany python. Their head tends to be bigger than their body, which is a defining feature of most Tiger reticulated pythons.
In addition to stripes, Tiger reticulated pythons can also have circular, dark tone patterns going along their scales. This snake is typically chosen as a pet because of its cool eye-catching aesthetics.
Albino Reticulated Python
Albino reticulated pythons are an interesting group of reticulated pythons simply because of their genetics.
Unlike other reticulated pythons, Albinos carry and express a special recessive gene.
This gene inhibits the production of melanin within the snake, therefore, creating a python with a white color base, instead of black or brown.
On top of the white base, Albino reticulated pythons present with an orange colored design pattern that stretches along the dorsal, left, and right side of the python’s body.
Motley Reticulated Python
Motleys are an intriguing form of reticulated python because of the different sub-morphs that can be created from it, along with many styles.
But to the primary point, Motley reticulated pythons can grow between 3 and 5 feet long, with some exceptions for those reaching up to 6 feet.
Their head and snout are a bit longer than the average reticulated python, which is what makes it stand out from the others. Their reticular pattern can consist of small dots or oblong streaks of dark ovals.
Pied Reticulated Python
The word “pied” means to have “having 2 or more different colors”; which is why the Pied reticulated python has been named so accurately.
It presents features of an Albino, in which the python’s belly – or sometimes its entire body – is a black white color. What makes this snake “pied” is the brown reticular pattern that it portrays along its body.
Its pattern may be organized on some snakes, and on others it may present in a random order. Nonetheless, the Pied reticulated python stays true to its name with its dual color pattern and noticeable size.
Super Dwarf Reticulated Python
Super Dwarf reticulated pythons are just like their slithering counterparts when it comes to design, however, they differ greatly by their size.
These reticulated pythons carry a genetic allele that hinders their growth by 50% on average. Thus, producing reticulated pythons that are 2 to 4 feet in length, and half the width of your standard full-size python.
Although different, its smaller size works in its favor to help it become one of the more manageable reticulated pythons to have as a pet or conduct research with.
Ivory Reticulated Python
The Ivory reticulated python morph may seem like a questionable snake to add to this list, but it’s necessary.
Because Ivory reticulated pythons have been used in many breeding activities to create various forms of sub-morphs with the signature ivory look.
This python holds the color of a pale silver along its body and can also present in a light yellow or cloudy white. Its reticulated pattern is very faint, yet still apparent within its scale.
It may show up in a disorganized diamond shape, or a circular pattern along its backside, with little presenting on its belly.
Jaguar Reticulated Python
Can you guess why it’s called the Jaguar reticulated python?
Because of its exciting pattern features!
Jaguar reticulated pythons can make for a cool pet simply based on the way they look! They are typically a brown to dark-brown color all over their body, while their reticular can express itself as enclosed circles with dark outlines.
These eye-catching circles are typically along the sides of the Jaguar reticulated python, with little of them presenting on their backside or underbelly.
Mochino Reticulated Python
Mochino reticulated pythons are one of the most eccentric types of reticulated pythons because of the various ways that their design can physically manifest itself.
Mochinos can either have the standard rectangle or circular pattern running along their left and right side, or they can have streaks or stripes going along their backside, with little-to-no pattern on their underside.
Mochino reticulated pythons usually have a coffee-colored tone and can also present in a yellowish-tan color depending on if it were mixed with a different morph.
Mochino Tiger Reticulated Python
Morphs are mixed quite a bit to create a new sub-breed of a python, like the Mochino Tiger reticulated python, which is a mix between the Mochino python and the intriguing Tiger python.
Its reticular pattern is strong as it has oval, stripes, and circular designs all over its body.
The patterns may not have dark spots or outline, but it is a fascinating snake with an interactive demeanor that could be a good fit for you if you’re a first-time snake owner.
Golden Child Pied Reticulated Python
Once you see the Golden Child Pied, you’ll notice that there actually isn’t anything golden about it!
This retic python presents with a heavy black coat on the backside, left and right side of the snake, with a white bottom that clashes against its superior.
Sometimes the black blotch of a design reaches to the underside of the python, creating an almost all-black Golden Child Pied with spots of white along its belly.
This serpent can grow up to 6 feet long and can weigh as much as a small child when fully grown!
Lavender Albino Golden Child Reticulated Python
With such a pretty aesthetic, the Lavender Albion Golden Child reticulated python can be a real head-turner.
The genes that it has from being a sub-morph mix of a Golden Child and an Albino creates a beautiful reddish-pink color for its body, and a slight bronze coating for its head.
It’s part of the reticular python family because it comes with two different sets of designs: one of them being circular white dots along its sides, with slight grayish-white lines streaking along its backside to the end of its tail.
Orange Ghost Stripe Reticulated Python
With a cool yet sinister look, the Orange Ghost Stripe is a retic python that has the makings of a potentially cool pet or research project.
It presents itself in a fiery reddish-orange color with plenty of reticular design to go around.
On its side there are small white blotches, whether circular or oval, running along the sides of the Orange Ghost Stripe, with the standard reticular pattern in the colors of brown or tan adorning its red back.
It also has the feature of being an interactive snake with warm caretakers that can manage their demeanor and size.
Blond Tiger Reticulated Python
The Blond Tiger python is a mix between a Blond python and Tiger python and creates a snake that deviates from the typical Tiger python.
It has a light reddish-pink color along its body with reddish-orange eyes to match. The reticular pattern comes into play on its sides and underbelly, presenting with a white base and peach-colored circles to clash against it.
It’s a rare subspecies of reticulated pythons, yet can be found through suitable and established python breeders across the U.S.
Golden Child Motely Het Pied
As a mix between a Golden Child and Motley, this python is mostly a solid black color from its head to its tail.
The retic design on this python is very faint to the naked eye considering the fact that it is a dark brown color that creates thin lines and circles on the spine of the python.
It can grow up to 5 feet on average, and although it looks intimidating, has a knack of being a chill and eye-catching reticulated python.
