Lovely restaurant and we experienced great service. We had foam margaritas which were very good for drinks. For appetizers we had crab dip and fried oysters. The crab dip was small but delicious. The fried oysters were amazing, perfectly cooked. Our mains were the lobster...roll (butter not mayo version) and the ahi tuna sandwich. The lobster roll (very tasty) could have more meat for that price. The ahi tuna sandwich was perfectly cooked and a good size. We will definitely be back.More

2/21/2020, 5:33PM, Table 61, Server: Taylor G...Escorted directly to awesome table out on the heated porch...wonderful decor and ambiance. Taylor was a true professional, couldn't have orchestrated a finer dinner with such outstanding service. My Wife opted for one of the night's specials - swordfish...and I had the menu Hard Shell Pasta dish. Appetizer was the best calamari served with three accompanying sauces. Drinks were an Aleworks Brown Ale and Chateau St Michelle Reisling. Entrees superb....perfect pasta with clams, mussels, lobster tail, scallops and shrimp. Swordfish was melt in your mouth. Finished it off with the BEST Creme Brûlée I have ever had. It was the best dining hour we've had in a long time. Total for the dinner was $105.34 which was fine dining at one of my top ten restaurants so far.More

Came here on spare of moment. Couldn't find parking so went to garage for $5/2 hours. We were immediately greeted by dining manager who checked on our satisfaction throughout our meal. Ordered appetizers. Clam soup and broccoli. I hate broccoli but loved the way they...prepared theirs. Entrees included seafood linguini and shrimp/scallops. A bottle of wine later and bill was very reasonable. Dennis great waiter. Chef very talented. Atmosphere charming. They validated our $5 parking fee as well! We will be back.More

The crab dip was actually really good, although it was a small portion. I should have probably attempted to get the seafood, as I tried the steak and it was terrible. It was barely seasoned, and I had requested that it be cooked to medium,...but it was definitely well done. The worst part was the subpar service we received. Our waitress rarely came to check on us and we had to often ask twice for things before we got them (such as a coke to drink). My husband and I save up money to go out to eat at nice places like this once in a blue moon so I was extremely disappointed. I would not recommend and we will never be returning.More

Look, I don’t have any problem paying $160 or way more for dinner when everything clicks and the experience and food are worth it, but tonight was meh at best. Our waiter had a bit more personality than a wet blanket, but not much. The...raw oysters were full of shell chips, maybe a first time shucker? The lobster bisque was insanely butter rich with no notes of seasoning or salt, just pure full cream dairy. The truffle fries were on point and salted to perfection. Arugula salad and wedge were amazing, as were the tuna tacos and hangar steak. The service was intermittent and slow, especially for a socially distanced/lower occupancy restaurant. I’ve eaten here 4 times previously with no complaints, this timeMore

So the brussels sprouts were lovely, just the right balance of flavors and cooked al dente. Just about perfect, nothing else was anywhere near that. The she-crab soup was tepid, gloppy, undersalted, over thickened and had no crab flavour. Maybe somebody should mention making crab...stock from the shells to them. The pasta with shrimp was also gloppy and too thick. The maine lobster platter was so sad, the clams and mussles lacked flavor and were tiny. The lobster was undercooked and tough, the roe was black and the meat not opaque. It was served barely warm. The crab cakes were seasoned badly, some odd spice combo that fought with the flavor of the crab. The french fries were cold were served. Honestly this one one of the worse fine dining experiences I've had in a while. I will never go back.More

Marginal at Best! We went as a group and the raw oysters and salmon was great. The rest of our meals were very marginal at best. The fish tacos were horrible, over fried and extremely salty. Service was good.

We spent two days in Richmond and this was, by far, our best eating experience. After parking in the parking structure opposite, we just happened across The Hard Shell and immediately thought from its layout and the menu that it would be a contender for...dinner. On our second evening we reserved a table for 8pm and were warmly welcomed at the door. It was not a busy evening and we selected a table and ordered a couple of cocktails. The menu was varied with several dishes that I would have enjoyed. I began with a plate of assorted oysters which were cold, very fresh and 2 of the 3 types were delicious (the 2 from Chesapeake). I followed this by lobster pasta, a large dish with the lobster served in a mushroom-truffle cream sauce. It was very rich but I thoroughly enjoyed the decadence. We drank a bottle of Frog’s Leap Chardonnay which accompanied all dishes perfectly. Great ambience, comfortable chairs and friendly service made this our pick of Richmond eateries. We also enjoyed an excellent IPA at Billy Jack’s Shack, conveniently located next door!More

Loved this boutique restaurant. Food was seasoned to perfection. The New York Strip steak was so good and tender that you could cut it with a butter knife. My hubs loved his ribs and crab legs. So we can’t wait to go back and try...more of their good food.More

The ribs were AMAZING! We had the salmon and the 1/2 rack of ribs w/ crab. There was NOTHING that could have improved this experience. We sat outside, and it was beautiful. The service was quick, the waitstaff was very polite and informative, and the...atmosphere was casual but upscale. I wish they were open tomorrow night, so we could visit again before we head home!More

Crab cakes were full of crab meat, set on a bed of grilled corn kernels and sweet potato cubes and a bit of aioli. Sweet pickled red onions were the crowning touch. Grilled Mahi Mahi was perfectly crusted with char and sweet and delicious inside....Flavored rice and spinach were very good. Key Lime Pie... not so much.... IMHO, too chewy and dry, and not enough lime flavor. Outdoor patio was very pleasant. If not for the Key Lime Pie, it would have been five dots for Excellent.More

The HS was a 2 minute walk from our hotel, the Marriott Courtyard Downtown. One of the best 2 minutes investment made. Wherever you are in RVA check this place out.You won't regret it. We, 2 of us, made a meal from 3 meat appetizers(scallops,...calamari, & oysters) + a side of Truffle Fries. I'm not a big fan of FFs but the truffle oil adds a unique delish spin to fries. The FFs are lip smacking good. I ate all the oysters since my +1 doesn't eat them. LUCKY me. There were plenty of calamari for sharing. I love the spindly tentacles parts and my +1 doesn't so we both ate the parts we like. We shared the scallops about 60/40 means me giving her about of the last one. #mybadd The 3 meat appetizers were lip smacking good also. The drinks were spot on too. Wine by the glass options are sort of limited but there are enough to cover the spectrum of palettes and accompany food selections.More

It’s a beautiful day in Richmond and we have found this excellent restaurant on the internet for lunch. The restaurant is collated in the new part of the city, right next to the James River with the nearby parking area. The are a few 2-hour...free parking right in front of the restaurant. It is a very nicely decorated and cozy restaurant. The foods and services are great as well. We had the Pan Roasted Mussels for appetizer, and for the main courses, the Angus Burger, the Blacken Tuna Sandwich and the Cajun Chicken Wrap. They were all very goods and went well with the Santa Julia Malbec. Highly recommended.More

We loved the crab cake sandwich!! The crab cake tasted of fresh crab and had not sorta ring flavors. Brioche bun , yum. The burger was also a hit. Waiter was great. Very nice place.
