The restaurant is situated in the Bo Kaap with a lovely view of Cape Town. Tour groups of visitors from foreign countries visit this restaurant to experience local cuisine ( Malay). The chef is very proud that this restaurant has been show cased on international and...local television and that international chefs like Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen and Andrew Zimmern have visited here. We found the food very bland, without flavour and mass produced. The dishes are served buffet style ( some hot dishes were cold, others were finished) and the appetizers were dry and overcooked. The desert was also not typical Malay. ( Chocolate pudding, ice cream with fresh fruit). We left the restaurant feeling disappointed. Unfortunately when we left the owner was not around to personally tell her of this terrible experience.More

Firstly, this is a business that is family owned, Nazli and Boeta Yusuf is always on hand to welcome you with a warm smile. Secondly, you have an amazing view over the Bo-Kaap and the CBD, from a restaurant in the heart of this cultural...hub. Thirdly, you have an amazing food spread being prepared, freshly prepared, FULL OF FLAVOR, traditional Malay Cuisine at its best. The pricing is on par with other restaurants, just more value / quality food, for your money from this restaurant. The restaurant had gone over and above most Cape Town restaurants, by having screens installed between tables, in an effort to prioritize safety for patrons where it comes to covid. I've taken many local and international guests to this establishment and they have never disappointed. I recommend this restaurant to everyone, and the warm reception by the owners, makes it feel like your visiting family opposed to eating at a restaurant.More

Warm genuine welcome, unbeatable view of table mountain and city, delicious food and a personal one to one insight into the history of cape malay cuisine and bo kaap. Fascinating. Despite being clearly very popular the whole family could not have made more of an...effort. Highly recommend. Thanks for a great dinner.More

I was really looking forward to having lunch with my Brazilian friends at Bo Kaap Kombuis. The restaurant’s location is stunning and the view was beautiful. The menu was interesting and I was impressed with the vegetarian options as my friends are vegetarian. The service...was disappointing considering we ended up being the only patrons there. We had to look for someone to order dessert, the waiters were standing outside, smoking. We ordered bobotie and I was shocked at the tiny portions. I paid R150 for a small slice of beef bobotie which was ok. Our bill came to just under R900. I felt very disappointed and ripped off. Such a pity as the restaurant and menu seemed so promising. I will certainly not go there again.More

I am not sure how I came to find this restaurant, but so glad I did! Located on the top of the hill in the Bo Kaap neighborhood, it offers incredible views of the city. Made a reservation for 6 pm (they open at 6)...but arrived at 5:30, due to poor timing. The owners graciously let me in and sat me down early. I was made to feel like I was eating at a family dinner. The owners (I think the wait staff are family as well) made me feel so comfortable throughout the meal. I had a lovely conversation with them at the end while waiting for my Uber. And the food was amazing as well. I ordered the fish and shrimp curry and it was very freshly prepared - not too spicy but the right amount of spice for a tourist! Next time I am back in CT, I will definitely return!More

Farwell dinner for myself from George, my daughter from Cape Town, my son visiting from Australia and my daughter and son in law from America. First time together in 10years. I picked the venue as i am a Sassa pensioner and needed something affordable. The...website was all very reasonably priced dishes. Our bill was + - R2000 . We had all put our R200 each on the table as that was more than what we each expected to pay. We're totally flummoxed by the Bil I have personally spoken to the owner as there was a mistake with our bill. Not only has he not looked up the copy to see where the error is and refunded the difference But He has not communicated with me since his original message of he would look into it. And send my bank details. He does not take my calls nor answers on What's app There was nothing wrong with the food normal simple Malay cooking as we expected it to be. As a South African born Australian decided to see what Bo Kaap had to offer with Cape Malay cuisine as this is meant to be the heart beat for Malay food. To say this was disappointing would be a understatement. The curries were tasteless and...bland. Samosas same bland tasteless!! Rotis were obviously made ahead and microwaved, more like a rubbery piece of flat bread. Very disappointing Bo Kaap Kombuis if this is what your feeding tourist as a authentic experience. VERY DISAPPOINTING!!!!More

Having eaten in the Bo Kaap district some 20 years ago we wanted to taste the wonderful Cape Malay food again. This Restaurant was recommended to us and was well e worth the visit. The food was delicious and the buffet gave us the chance...to try everything! Had a long chat with the lady owner/chef who gave great inside into the preparation and history of the cuisine ( as well as her family!). Delightful people and amazing views of Table Mountain at sunset! The lady also holds cookery classes - wish we’d known before - just no time on this visit!More

Booked for a group of 6. We checked out the menu online before booking and menu and prices seemed reasonable. We had 2 vegans in the group which were well looked after. We had no idea this was going to be a buffet, food was...good but nothing to write home about. Dessert was bad, a tasteless chocolate cake straight from the packet but the real shock came when the bill arrived. We paid R430 per person, including 1 softdrink each. The bill included a R300 total service fee! Total rip off, with no previous indication and no mention on the website of this price most of us felt it was unreasonable expensive for Cape Town standards. Certainly not worth this high pricetag. Won't recommend it. Your money will be better spend elsewhere.More

Called at 17.30 asking for a place for 2 and got told the only spot available was at 18.30. Arrived in time and got told Just then that that night was a buffet dinner, the restaurant was half empty even at 19.50 when we left,...so not sure where the whole 18.30 thing came from. Food was low quality. Service non existing (in fact we dished the food by outrselves) and the Total price for food plus 2 water bottles was 851 R of which 99 R service (for what?) I already wrote to Lonely Planet to take It out from their suggestions please do as well.More

We were in CPT five days and went here twice. Family owned and run. Home cooked curries, briyanis and other local traditional foods. Often a buffet. Mostly local patrons. Glass walls facing the mountain with balcony for photos.

Went there yesterday for takeaway meals. I was very dissatisfied, as it was very little the portion to really experience the authentic Bo Kaap taste experience.. samosas can be a bit more crunchy, small pies was nice though.. Koeksisters, too dry and you not getting...the spices in there .. the mince curry was more like it was the filling for the samosas .. so I was there like 5 years ago and the food was delicious, that’s why I went back.. I would not go out my way next time to get their food or maybe it’s better to sit down and order .. Mayne the takeaway side is a different standar .. too expensive and little foodMore

We reserved a table for lunch well in advance only to arrive to find no table, a host that lied saying he had called and a coach full of people in the restaurant. Apologetic lady however when you are entertaining guests its very embarrassing as...the host. I would give this restaurant a skip, it seems to be a tourist trap catering for groups who do not know better or do not have other options.More

We went in the evening and had a buffet. It was nice to try Cape-Malay food. The restaurant has a great view over the city at night, which could be capitalised on with seats and tables on the balcony. The food was on the pricey...side - more expensive than the steaks we had at the V&A Waterfront or the fish platter at Camps Bay.More

Nope. In keeping with the Muslim faith of the owners and this traditional and historical area within Cape Town - it is inappropriate to serve alcohol.

There are dishes that are not hot. There were people in our group who did not eat spicy food, and they were able to enjoy several dishes. But I am not sure whether there are dishes without any chilli at all.
