How do I correct the gmail imap server password in Outlook 2016 - Microsoft Community

How do I correct the gmail imap server password in Outlook 2016 (Windows 10)

My gmail account has been working fine in Outlook 2016 until I needed to change my password on gmail webmail (I'd forgotten old password),  Then when I next opened my Outlook a window popped up asking

"Enter your user name and password for the following server"
"Server imap.gmail.com"

"Username"

"Password"

I have tried putting my new password in here, but the window keeps popping up after clicking on "OK"

I have also tried changing the password in 'File - Account Settings - Email - Change' but again the window keeps popping up.

Can anyone please tell me what I need to correct to make this work, and the path to take to correct it ?

Your help would be much appreciated.

Are you using 2-factor authentication? If so, you need to use an app password.

If you took gmail's advice and turned off 'less secure apps', you need to either turn it on or use 2-factor and an app password in outlook.
