I saw his hair to whom The lord be with you. and with your spirit From the holy gospel according to John. Glory to glory to the lord. on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early in the morning while it was still dark and saw the stone removed from the tomb. So, she ran and went to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved and told them they have taken the lord from the tomb and we don’t know where they put him. Mary stayed outside the tomb weeping and as she wept, she bent over into the tomb and saw two angels in white sitting there, one at the head and at the feet with the body of Jesus had been and they said to her, woman, why are you weeping? She said to them, they have taken my lord and I don’t know where they laid him. When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus there but did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for? She thought it was the gardener and said to him, sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you laid him and I will take him Jesus said to her, Mary. she turned and said to him in Hebrew which means teacher, Jesus said to her, stop holding on to for I have not yet ascended to the father but go to my brothers and tell them, I am going to my father and your father to my god and your god Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, I have seen the lord and then reported what he had told her. The gospel of the lord. on Tuesday night, it was a rather Aventus uh night eventful night in the state of Wisconsin because the Milwaukee Bucks, one of the NBA teams was in the NBA Finals and they won the game. They became NBA champions. I’m sure a lot of people at least in this neck of the woods we were watching that game but it’s sort of interesting depending on regardless of what sport it is Whenever a team wins a championship, you always get some of those questions. You know, what was the secret what led to this and then you get varying response it all kind of is roughly the thing. Well, we knew we had to trust in one another. We knew we had to persevere. We knew we had to play together. We knew we had to listen to our coach. We knew that we worked hard. It would pay off, right Sort of all the cliches. It doesn’t really matter the sport. You always kind of hear the same answer but one of those things, one of those important things of course is that they say is that of perseverance that we persevered even in the midst of adversity because if you ask the losing team, you know what happened. I mean, I’m sure they would say a lot of the same things. Well, we we did work hard. We did try to play together. We try to do all these things. It’s similar but maybe the one one thing that was missing is that they didn’t persevere that the hard work that they no doubt put in didn’t lead to the final result and we know that neurons as well If we do something, we work at something, there’s no guarantee it’s going to bring us to what we’re hoping for. today. we have Saint Mary Magdalene, a beautiful saint a couple years ago. Pope Francis elevated this. It was an obligatory memorial so so it’s a special Saint Feast on the calendar but now it’s actually a feast that we have the glory of this sort of it in a sense because Saint Mary was the to the apostles because as we heard in the gospel, she brought the good news to the apostles first that the tomb was empty. It’s always great to hear this, right? We we know that we’re always reminiscing and remembering Easter but to hear this again is a very eastern reading. Of course, the tomb was empty. She went and told the apostles, they of course spread that news to the rest of the world but we hear this very real sorrow that she had when she saw the tomb empty but not knowing where Jesus was but what did she do? What was the key characteristics decree trait of Saint Mary Magdalene. It’s not a perseverance. It’s haven’t Peter and the one whom Jesus loved they went back, right? She stayed by the tomb because of that great love. No doubt that was love experienced in sorrow that she was weeping because she didn’t know where Jesus was but it’s all in the midst of she didn’t know what else to do but to stay close to where he was and of what happens is that perseverance pays off because Jesus appears to her first and then she goes as we heard and spread the good news. I think often times that little bit of uh to kind of go back to the sports that pep talk to continue to persevere that though we all have our own struggles, we may have our own things that lead to weeping and mourning but we have to remember the good news. The tomb was empty. Jesus wasn’t there. He appeared to Mary Magdalene but he peed because he’s alive. and like I said, I think we need that reminder. you know, every single day. I mean, this is why the beauty we have holy mass every single day that we have that reminded that Jesus is alive and that we continue to pursue because here’s the thing, if we spend time for Mass, if we spend time in prayer, that’s never time Wasted a basketball team for instance, can work hard but if they lose and fall short in some sense, it didn’t quite, you know, didn’t get the result that they were looking for spending time with Jesus in the mass in prayer. never time wasted. It’s never time wasted because oh Mary Magdalene was looking for Jesus. our ultimate goal, our ultimate end is heaven to see Jesus forever and ever with Mary Magdalene with our blessed mother Saint Joseph, all the Saints. That’s our end goal. That’s our championship if you will and so we persevere and we ask for the grace of the sacrament of the Eucharist to help us to do so. We ask for the prayers of Saint Mary Magdalene because that’s what led to her great joy and god willing that will lead to our great joy 1 day in heaven as well. and so trusting in our heavenly father from whom all good things come to resent to him this day, our prayers and our needs for our holy father and all priests and for an increase in Holy vocations to the priesthood and religious life. we pray to the lord.
