I am completely new to bolt action riffles. I want to get into long range precision shooting to eventually get to 1k yards.
For my first gun I think I’ve landed on the Tikka TX3 in 6.5 Creedmoor. My goal is to buy a mix of budget and quality. Tikka seems to provide that with the TX3. I do have a couple of questions on the TX3 and in general about the choice.
Do all TX3s come with threaded barrels or is there a specific model I should be looking at?
In the lower end I see the Ruger American predictor, on the higher end I see the Ruger precision. Should I be looking at either of these instead of the tikka?
This will primarily be a range gun for long distance shooting that I may take hunting vs the inverse of a hunting gun I want to take to the long distance range.
Any insights y’all got would be great. (I know there will be tons to learn and consider about the optics as well but focusing on the riffle first then the optic)
If I love longrange/PRS/NRLH style shooting (and I do!), who should I be following on Instagram?
I’m presently following Velayo, Caylen, and the MDR account. I also follow Ryan D’Agostino and James Wazeter.
What other accounts should I be following for this kind of content?
Moving to WA for 2 ish years and planning on building out a 22” (ish) 6.5 CM in the next few months. Currently have an Aero Lahar 30k and a YHM R2. I’m only bringing 1 with me, so which would be a better option to run?
Primary use will be long range targets with occasional hunting, direct thread.
Has anyone checked out one of the modded tikka actions that UM sells or sent in their action to be modded? If so, were you able to attack a pic rail ontop?
I am looking for some help choosing a scope. I am building a C14 clone (ish). It's a PGW coyote in 308. It has a McMillian A5 stock. It's the same action as the timberwolf but in 308. I don't access to a range that would merit a 338.
I am mostly going to be using it to get better at mid to long distance shooting. I'll be maxing out at 1km. I most likely won't be hunting since it is a heavy rifle, but it is not out of the question.
I have a budget of 4k USD or 5500 CAD.
I am considering an S&B for the C14 clone, but I am not familiar with all the models available and the different features on the scopes. I know the different magnifications available, but i dont know what specific features to get like the DT, MTC ZT etc..
If someone knows the specific model and reticle used on the C14 please let me know.
I am also considering a ZCO or ATACR.
What scope and/or reticle do folks recommend?
Also does anyone know if I can ship riflescopes I buy on sniperhide to Canada? Are riflescopes ITAR controlled? Do I need an importer?
Thanks in advance for everyone's help.
Those of you with hnt26 chassis, what are you using for tripod heads? My Sirui does not allow for my hnt26 to clip in without sliding it in from the front. The clamp is like 2mm to narrow.
Hey all, been shooting long range for a long time but only recently started shooting with suppressors after moving to a free state. My question is how do yall deal with the image in your scope of your suppressor? Both my LR build and .22 have 20 MOA rails so I know the angle is gonna affect that but is there any way to alleviate that? Higher rings? Just deal with it? I appreciate any input!
Looking to buy a new rifle and want it to be an “hybrid” so to speak. I want a good light weight rifle I can hunt with but also have a good precision shooter that’s a joy at the range.
The t3x is a little price for me but seems to have the best aftermarket support, and I’ve only heard good things about them
The x bolt is by far my favorite out of the three, specifically the speed model is super light weight, I love the action and the trigger. But I’ve never heard much about how they perform.
And then the ruger American gen2 is the most cost effective for me, super light weight and also seems to have a pretty good action, I’m not just sure about it.
Just looking for input on any of these rifle and what you guys have to say. Other suggestions are also more than welcome.
