The Puerto Rican golfer Rafael “Rafa” Campos got his first top ten of 2024 this weekend in THE CJ CUP Byron Nelsonwhich was held from May 2 to 5 in Texas as part of the PGA Tour.
Campos finished ninth, tied with three other players. It is his best result this season, and he is expected to bring him valuable points in the FedEx Cup and in the next update of the Olympic ranking, where he currently appears in position number 54 of 60 athletes.
The Puerto Rican carded a 67, four strokes under par, in the first two days of the competition in Texas. On Saturday he played a two-under 69; and on Sunday he closed with 63 (-8), with a Eagle on the ninth hole.
He finished with a total of 266 strokes, 18 under par.
“I had a very good start today (Sunday). I was six under on the front nine holes. I felt very comfortable, and I think when I saved a par on the 10th hole, I thought it was going to be one of those very special days. But I started thinking about the result and unfortunately I started hitting it not so well because of a few holes. “I think my caddie and I did a good job of just recovering mentally and focusing on the shots and giving ourselves those opportunities,” Campos said in an interview offered at the Golf Channel after the competition.
Campos – who struck out upon his return to the PGA Tour in October 2023 – has played in nine tournaments this year, of which he has made the final cut in six and has lost in three of them. At the Puerto Rico Open, which was his third competition this season, he was tied for 18th.

This is calculated every Monday following the completion of the previous week’s tournaments recognized by the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) and the Rolex Rankings around the world. The list is updated on the International Golf Federation website every Tuesday.
For the French tournament, 60 players from each branch qualify directly. The deadline to get the pass is June 1. Campos debuted at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
It should be noted that the Puerto Rican reached his best position in the OWGR published on May 5 of this year, placing him in position 210. His previous ranking placed him at 272.
Campos occupies position 54 in the Olympic qualifying ranking because this list takes into account a maximum of athletes per country – four in the first 15 and two from position 16 to 60.
