Phil Spector's wife Rachelle Short has said that she never felt unsafe around her husband.

Spector was sentenced to 19 years to life in imprisonment in May after being found guilty of the murder of actress Lana Clarkson at his California home in February 2003.

Short told Now: "I know it's hard to believe but Phil and I haven't spoken about that night. Having sat through two trials, I feel I know what happened.

"During the case, there were reports of him having pulled guns on people before but I've never felt unsafe with him and I don't believe the stories."

She added: "Living alone is depressing without Phil. Although I live in the house Lana died in, it's still our home and a tragic accident doesn't change that.

"We even got married in the lobby where it happened, but I didn't even think about it on our wedding day and there are no bad vibes in the house for me."

Spector had been accused of wielding firearms in the presence of a number of musicians in the past, including The Ramones, Leonard Cohen and John Lennon.
