but, i didn't want to mess up any ratings. Did you know that lead is heavy? Did you know that 25 pounds of lead fit in a rather small unassuming box that freaks out the delivery guy and it will pull you off balance when you see the little box and aren't expecting it to weigh 25 pounds? I used this to cast balls for my .58 Harpers Ferry, .50 Kentucky Bounty, and .36 LePage blackpowders and it was good. The shots fired true, and we even recovered rounds for re-casting. Recovered shot was still in good shape after penetrating multiple plywood backings and dug out of the berm. If this lead works this well for casting large bore blackpowder, it should do well for whatever you want to use it for.
It appears to be what it was advertised as. Got these to spray gold for a novelty. I failed to read that the bars come in both 1lb AND 1/2 pound bars and the photo of all stacked same-sized bars is somewhat misleading, I was expecting 25 1LB bricks. I'll have to recast these into larger bars now, which was not an investment of time or money I was looking for right now. Still, it's a good product.
I have been molding my own fishing lures for a couple years now. This lead has made the work so easy. Clean lead saves you so much time and work. Buying 25lbs with free shipping is the best price I have found anywhere! Fast shipping as well!
Roto Metals has been my provider of Soft Lead since before the State Banned Lead Wheel Weights. The Latter having some Tin to make em a bit more durable. You always get at least the amount you ordered, usually a bit beyond that. Works Well in Shotgun Slug Molds where Pure Lead is recommended.
Seems to be very soft lead! I compared it to actual lead from the Civil War that I melted down and fluxed very close to the same in hardness! Great price and delivered two days ahead of schedule! Will order more!
So, yo Adrian, the stuff I got has a brinell hardness of 19 according to my test equipment. That's pretty hard! I'm going to add real lead to it so my bullets grab the rifling a little better. You could use it for bullets as is for long range and higher charges so the bullets don't disintegrate at the time of firing. But for "every day" use you'll probably want to soften it to 12 or so, 10 or 9 for hollow points. The big question, though, is what is the ingredient making it so hard? Love it though!
