Even royals aren't exempt from a wedding day hiccup or two, at least not according to the Queen's bridesmaid, Lady Pamela Hicks.
In honor of the Queen and Prince Philip's 70th wedding anniversary, India Hicks, Lady Pamela's daughter, asked her mother what "this day felt like 70 years ago," and documented her response on Instagram.
"Normal wedding chaos," Lady Pamela replied. "The tiara broke and the bouquet was lost for a while, but The Queen was delighted to discover that her favourite corgi, Susan, had been hidden under a rug in her carriage, so that she could join them for their honeymoon at Broadlands [Lord Mountbatten's country estate]."
"She always says it was a supremely romantic occasion that brought hope to a country mired in post-war austerity," India continued, finishing with well wishes for the royal couple. "Wishing a very happy 70th wedding anniversary to Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh."
During the 1947 ceremony, Elizabeth had eight bridesmaids, including her sister, Princess Margaret, her first cousins Margaret Elphinston and Diana Bowes-Lyon, Lady Caroline Montagu-Douglas-Scott, Lady Mary Cambridge, and Lady Elizabeth Lambart.
Lady Pamela Hicks (pictured at the far right in the photo above) is one of only two who survive today. The other is Princess Alexandra of Kent.
