      Critics Consensus

A dim and predictable remake of an already dull slasher film, this Prom Night fails to be memorable.

Mike P Unfairly maligned Prom Night remake is a watchable thriller. Not good, but it doesn't deserve to be vivisected like it's been. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/11/24 Full Review Ghost R Meh not my cup of tea Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/03/24 Full Review Ruud T Op zich een goede film, maar iemand die nachtmerries heeft en dan zomaar haar gevoel negeert ?, nee dat gaat er bij mij niet in. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/18/23 Full Review leviiio This movie was actually so ass — not complex at all and totally predictable. I did not care about the characters at all LOLL, they're all just typical thriller stereotypes. You literally know who the killer is, along with the bare minimum of backstory — so there's no surprise twist or even satisfaction in finding out who the killer is. Probably would've liked it more if they had more on why he was so obsessed. Seemed like it was effortlessly made and was annoying to watch Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/28/23 Full Review Austin J Really campy but really fun too. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/31/23 Full Review Kazall R Pretty overhated but that doesn't make Prom Night a good movie as this movie has a forgettable story & a lazy main villain. Joshua Rothkopf Time Out Rated: 1/5 Nov 16, 2011 Full Review Xan Brooks Guardian I liked the way in which the teens find ever-more elaborate pretexts to take themselves off, alone, into the darkness to investigate this or that. Rated: 2/5 Oct 18, 2008 Full Review Marc Savlov Austin Chronicle This do-over isn't so much an improvement over the original as lousy in a whole new direction, a nearly bloodless slasher film with fewer surprises than a broken jack-in-the-box. Rated: 0/5 Oct 18, 2008 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review The movie won't even satisfy viewers looking for cheap thrills and buckets of blood. Rated: 1/4 Feb 22, 2023 Full Review Stephanie Archer Film Inquiry While it fails to break new ground, it does shape itself up to be a prime example of horror films that may be due, especially in this new wave age of horror, for another induction. Jul 2, 2022 Full Review Micheal Compton Bowling Green Daily News About the only positive thing I can say about Prom Night is that it does manage to have a few unintentionally humorous moments.
