Very crowded…but amazing. This is such a great shop. Well worth the time. Get there well before closing time.

It’s a sign of ageing if not old age itself that one fails to recognise the majority of shops or restaurants in an area one spent a lot of time in ten years ago. That is certainly true of South Kensington where even the road layout has changed having created a pedestrian area directly in front of The station in Thurlow Place. It was therefore re-assuring to find the bookshop not only still in situ but with even the same layout as I’ve always remembered it with recently published fiction directly to the right of the door; art books on shelves to the left; poetry in a room at the back shared with music and cookery books to the rear. In each room tables are piled high with discounted hardbacks.

Неприметный снаружи, большой внутри. Огромный выбор. Все очень грамотно распределено по секциям, приемлемые цены. Представлены как современные авторы так и классики. Ближе к дверям "скидочная" секция. Большой выбор открыток
Хорошее расположение, прямо у метро South Kensington. Если любите книжные магазины и будете в этом районе (а тут несколько обязательных к посещению музеев – Виктории и Альберта и Натуральной истории к примеру) зайдите, не пожалеете.

We stay in this neighbourhood a few times a year (usually because we're in London for a Match @ "Emirates"), and some years ago we were delighted to discover this little Bookstore, close to the South Kensington "Tube" Station.
Not surprisingly, the circulation space in this compact independent Outlet is more than a bit tight. As well as stocking the usual popular Titles, they seem to specialise in areas such as Art, Architecture & Photography (there are quite a few "Coffee-Table" sized volumes here) and History, where they have quite an impressive range. And while they also offer quite a bit in several other areas (such as Cookery), don't expect much from the "Sports" section.
We've made a few purchases here over the years, particularly from the History section, and did so again on our latest visit.
If we have one criticism, from our several visits, it is that the staff at the Cash-Desk seem far more interested in chatting with one another, rather than focusing on, and engaging with, the Customers in front of them. It must be pretty tough nowadays to keep any Bookshop going, (particularly with all of the pressures from the online giants), and the Owners would be well-advised to insist their staff appreciate the absolute need to behave in a way which encourages people to want to come back to an actual Bookstore, rather than heading for "Amazon"!

The shop felt as comfortable & welcoming as usual. Found myself joining in a discussion about Philip Pullman - recommending of course! Intended just to look but came out with two really unusual books - presents for friends or for me?

A wonderful place to get lost in. Beautiful selection of books. My children loved the array of books dedicated to Paddington bear. Left the store with new stories to sink into.

We popped into South Kensington Books as we walked past and it was a delightful little book shop with lots of interesting titles not found on the high street, with charming service. Highly recommended.

It may have changed its name over the years, possibly even its ownership. But the concept remains the same: to sell art books and novels, but much else besides at a discount. Here you can find catalogues to current exhibitions, hardback first editions of novels, a rum selection of cookbooks about cuisine from all around the world, a scattering of plays, poems, even the odd musical score. But best of all, unlike so many other bookshops of its type, everything is neatly shelved or tabled, arranged into sections and easy to find.

This small bookshop is located not far from South Kensington Tube station. We discovered that, although there was no obvious sale occurring, the couple of recently published books we were after were priced below the RRP, so we purchased them here. It was good to see that a small (presumably) independent bookshop was flourishing. This would be a good place to look for a gift (and they sell not just books) or something for yourself.
