I will be traveling from Mauritius to Sri Lanka in about a week. I know Mauritian rupees cannot be changed into Sri Lankan rupees. My question is would it be better to have euros or dollars when I arrive in Sri Lanka or is it a non issue. I will most likely be using my no fee bank card to get SL rupees and will just be using my excess cash for exchange.

It's a non issue, whatever you have on stock. Tourism prices are often quoted in USD but that is a general measure to protect the businesses from rate fluctuations, you can pay in rupees as well.

Spreads on USD are slightly narrower than on EUR, so it is a bit better to bring USD than EUR. The difference is not big though.
