Icoca and Apple Pay

Hello,

I know that it’s possible to add one’s Suica into Apple Pay to use the Espress Transit Card feature in Japan’s metro (you just hover your phone over the stall to pay). I have, however, an Icoca card, and it is not being accepted by my phone for Apple Pay.

1. Is Icoca not yet available for Apple Pay?

2. Can I simply use any credit card I have with Apple Pay to use the Express Transit Card feature? If so, why would one choose Suica over a credit card of one’s choice?

Thanks a lot!

Apple Pay only works with Suica.

2. no. train station ticket gates only accept IC cards or virtual IC cards on smart phones.

If you want to use Apple Pay for transit fare, just "issue" a new SUICA card using the SUICA app. It costs nothing.

Thank you both!

Bibimbob, ah, I forgot I don’t need to buy a physical Suica card first. Thanks for pointing that out. Just set it up.
