Is it anything worth looking for in Tokyo? Like Clothes, gadgets, electronics etc. What`s the best bargains?
Buy a nice pair of sneakers. They have the best sneaker style and selection anywhere.
Uniqlo has great deals on women's cotton t-shirts, excellent quality at low price.
Ceramic knives/peelers made by Kyocera.
Japanese designers like Issey Miyake and Yohji Yamamoto are much cheaper in Japan than Europe or the USA. Both have flagship shops on Miyuki Dori, which is the street on the other side of Omotesando past Aoyama Dori.
Also, there is a shop call Amadana that sells cool retro design electronic goods, but with modern technology. Their shop is in Omotesando Hills, but check their web site for details.
Also, Muji has a much bigger selection of various design goods in Japan, then their shops overseas. The best Muji shops to visit is the mega shop at Yurakucho or the shop in Roppongi Midtown.
Many Japanese are crazy for bags. There is a local brand called Porter which is a product of the Yoshida Bag company. People tend to go crazy over these bags-there a a few shops around. One is in the Maru Bldg, and some around the Harajuku/Omotesando area.
Then there is BAPE. I suggest you just google this word to understand what it is. Suffice to say its insanely popular with teens, 20's, fashionistas, and everybody.
Any particular brand of shoes or sneaker for children & adults that is 'Made in Japan'? Where to buy them? Is the porter bag made in Japan?
regarding sneakers, Mizuno and Asics are Japanese brands, although I think most sneakers are made in China or Vietnam nowadays. Fashion conscious Japanese are mostly into Nike and Addias, but Asics has been trying hard recently with its Tiger brand, the original running shoe that inspired Phil Knight at Nike. (there is actually an Asics Tiger shop in Wheelock Orchard Rd Singapore).
Porter is made and designed in Japan. The bags are very nice, somewhat expensive.
For kids stuff, I recommend going to Toyosu LaLaPort, which has extensive adult and kids shopping.
Also, I should mention the Yoshikin Knife company. They make a line called "Global" that are some of the finest cooking knives available anywhere. I think the products are made around Niigata. There is a hard to find shop near Roppongi. Check the web site if interested.
The Japanese is a nation obsessed with collecting one-of-a-kind of everything. I was able to find more out-of-print magazines, posters, music CDs/vinyls, and designer gadgets in Tokyo than in London and NY. Many of these products are not originally published or produced in Japan, but can now be found for sale almost solely in Japan.
Also, many interior design items are just too quaint not to be brought home.
About sneakers--here is a blog showing some male tourists shopping like crazy in "Inner Harajuku":
