Superintendent Claire Guy-Alleyne, head of the Special Victims Department of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, said the woman seen in a video kicking a two-year-old boy will be charged.

According to Guy-Alleyne, in a telephone interview with the Express, enough evidence was gathered on the suspect yesterday.

And at least two stakeholders have responded to the video circulating on social media showing the child being physically abused by a female relative.

In a news release sent by Ayanna Webster-Roy, Minister with responsibility for Gender and Child Affairs, she said she was saddened by the video and noted that there was absolutely no excuse for any form of abuse of a child.

She said she strongly urged parents, guardians and caretakers to reach out and seek the necessary support services that will help families to cope and overcome challenges being experienced on a day-to-day basis.

The minister also commended the people who highlighted and brought the matter to the attention of the relevant authorities. She said this ensured swift and decisive action by the relevant agencies that resulted in the child being taken into care and provided with urgent medical and other care services.

Minister Webster-Roy assured that all resources of the State will be made available to the affected child to ensure full recovery.
