Anyone know how?

I am fine giving my email address to POF I but don't want to give my phone number.

Can this be bypassed?

The only way to by pass the mobile phone verification that uses texting is to contact the POF support by email which I think you then have to supply your own home number.

I can't find anything on POF help center but you can check out this article that has a bit more information.

It looks like POF has kept things the same since the launch of the verification feature in November of 2019. I couldn't find a direct link on the Plenty of Fish Help Center but after a Google search I did find these orphaned help pages:

https://blog.pof.com/2019/11/what-is-2-factor-authentication-on-plenty-of-fish/
If you don’t have a mobile phone number, or don’t wish to provide your mobile phone number, you can have your POF account verified by writing to their customer care team at CSR@pof.com for assistance.

https://ca.pof.com/HelpCenter/helpCenter_smsVerify.aspx
In regards to the phone number you can use this help page states:
  • You can only verify with a mobile number you own.
  • You must be able to receive SMS texts to the mobile number you are trying to verify.
  • POF can't send your code via any other method due to security reasons.
  • The phone number used to verify your account will be retained as a one-way hash for the duration of the account and then disposed of in accordance with POF's Privacy Policy.

https://ca.pof.com/HelpCenter/helpcenter_mfa.aspx
Here is some more info regarding the mobile phone verification (also call Multi-Factor Authorization or MFA) if you are receiving an invalid phone number error when you try to authenticate. This is because:
  • POF requires a phone number that has the ability to receive text messages.
  • POF does not accept landlines.
  • One-off text messaging services are not allowed
  • You may be asked to verify again if you ever login from a new device.

Finally this page also states:

If you do not own a cell phone or are unable to receive text messages you are still welcome to use our site. Please contact Plenty of Fish Customer Service, you may be asked to verify your account another way.

I hope this helps everyone.

Why bypass the verification?

It helps us by keeping out the scammers operating from Nigeria and Lagos and Russia by country code.

I don't trust any website with my personal data, it's not a matter of if they will have a data breach - it's a matter of when.

Plus I don't trust websites to misuse, sell or spam my contact details.
Plus PoF have went downhill, they don't care about their customers.

Have a google for disposable SMS numbers.....

Logging in with a different device? SO WHAT??? If you have the ID & PW, THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS. Suppose every time you drove up to your bank's ATM in a different CAR they forced you to "Verify," even though you have your ATM card & login info. Who would tolerate that (but of course, POF "security" is MUCH more important than keeping all your MONEY safe... )? NEVER give them your cell, email them & make them send the info to the email associated with the account. There is no reason they can't send a text to a Google Voice number or similar, I have 2 of those & they're fine getting texts, but the cons at POF still refuse to use those (I've tried). I have been able to reactivate by emailing CSR@pof.com, but I've had to do this multiple times & it's a PITA
