Are you a 'fleabagger'? Term coined for repeatedly dating people who are 'wrong' for you after Phoebe Waller-Bridge's character in BBC comedy

  • Dating site Plenty of Fish revealed terms to describe people's ‘dating personality’
  • Poll of 1,000 singles found women more likely to date the ‘wrong type of man’
  • Other terms include ‘cause-playing’ – getting in touch with ex to ask for a favour

Fleabagging  – the act of repeatedly dating people who are ‘wrong’ for you – has been added to a list of buzzwords for people seeking a new romance.

Bosses at dating site Plenty of Fish last week revealed a list of terms it had added to its glossary to help users describe their ‘dating personality’.

The term ‘fleabagging’ was inspired by Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who sees people who are ‘wrong’ for her in the show.

An accompanying poll of 1,000 singles found women were more likely to date the ‘wrong type of man’, with 63 per cent admitting it. Thirty-eight per cent of men said they’d seen the wrong type of woman.

Other terms added by Plenty of Fish include ‘cause-playing’ – getting in touch with an ex to ask for a favour – and ‘yellow carding’, calling someone out for their poor dating etiquette.

Meanwhile, you’ll have been ‘glamboozled’ if you were all ready for romantic encounter only for plans to fall through at the last minute.

Shannon Smith from Plenty of Fish said there were ‘still some pain points’ in the dating world.
