This is a place to discuss dating and relationships over 40. It's not a place to push gendered agendas; it's not a place to talk about all the reasons not to date; it's not a place to talk about everything wrong with dating people over 40; and it's not a place to talk about everything that's wrong with your target gender. This is a sub that intends to be positive about dating, sex, and relationships over 40, and that includes being positive or at least civil towards all genders and life stages.

Plenty of fish free version

Hi, is it even possible to get a match on the free version of plenty of fish dating app? I have over a 100 likes over last couple months, i swipe and I swipe and I never match with anyone on there. Just seems a complete waste of time 😀

Free pof used to be good enough for me but as soon as they limited the messages it became pointless. Same with okc.

My experience with POF was it was more like a POS.

Of course you can get a match in the free version. If the woman likes your profile, she'll swipe right on you. If you've swiped right too, you'll get a match. After a couple months, you've pretty much gotten all the likes you're going to get. Just pay the $30 to find out who the 100+ likes are. You'll also get messaging. Is your profile like most men who say "can't see likes, message me"? LOL, because if so, you're asking me to pay for and do work that you are not inclined to do yourself. I don't like any men who write that. Messaging likely won't help much. I block and delete most messages. Most men's profiles are complete and utter garbage there. The worst I've ever seen.

POF … Walmart of dating apps. A true dumpster fire 🔥

Ever drive by an old JC Penney, looking very long in the tooth, and see a couple straggler cars in the lot and think "Are there people really in there shopping? Does it smell all musty and sad like a Member's Only jacket from the 80's left in a closet?"

Anyway....that's this post.

I can’t imagine what kind of people are still using POF. It’s gotta be rough.

Yes. I met someone last year.

Admittedly, (for a specific reason unrelated to your inquiry or my response), I'm not a POF user, but with such little supplemental information from you? I feel compelled to ask (which, of course, feel free to "pass" on answering):

•Is this the only app you've tried?

• Does your profile mention both the unemployment and affinity for weed?

• Does your profile mention any mental health details about yourself?

I'm sure I'm no doubt biased...I have an immediate family member who is unable to pay their rent or buy groceries, but passes on any shift offered outside of an 18-hour weekend block of time, and smokes weed daily...exorbitantly.

Then, she's frustrated over having no money...or dates. One Tinder match told her that if he was looking for a "barely employed stoner," he would've remained married. 😬. Such feedback really hit her hard ...yet, here she is... 3 or 4 months later, dateless and dancing with unemployment. But her bong keeps her company, so there's that 🤷‍♀️.

I'm assuming the weed use might be anxiety-related? Are you able to manage the condition, or is that a factor in dating, too?

I'm a permanently disabled single Mom, so I wholeheartedly "get" how challenging dating can be with conditions that make one an "outlier". I'm just wondering how much you disclose right out of the gate on your public profile.

Perhaps scaling back a bit might enable at least a few preliminary discussions to be had before a "like" ultimately decides to match or pass. (I'm not at all suggesting you lie, outright, or by omission...), just wondering if "TMI" plays a small part in the first impression you're displaying on your profile.

Add that you’re fresh out of jail to your bio. They will be jumping out of the water at you on POF

POF is for matching with bots, scammers, and of course, plenty of catfish

My 2 serious relationships post divorce were from PoF. This was back in the 2019-2020 timeframe. Have been with my wife for 5+ years now, met on PoF.

I haven't been on it lately, but it used to work pretty well. You gotta have a very strong filter for fake accounts and BS though.

I used Plenty of Fish, one of the four dating sites I tried. At one point a free member could send a lot of first messages per day but there were also a lot of bot accounts. Then the number of messages per day for a free member was reduced to 10, then 5, then 3, then 1. At the same time, there was a concerted effort to clean up bot accounts, and by the time I quit using it, the bots were indeed way down in number. The fundamental problem was, I was hardly getting replies to my first messages and got only one first message.

However, the problem isn't so much Plenty of Fish. Men struggle to get matches on any app unless they are in the upper echelon (approximately the top 20% in the opinion of women). The reason I don't use OLD right now is that it does feel like a complete waste of time for average men like me.

What do you think the top 20% echelon of men look like and what do they offer that the rest of us don't have?
