Plenty of Fish Review | the Good, the Bad, the Ugly

A lot of readers have been requesting a Plenty of Fish review so after trying it out for 2 months I decided to give it a go.

Plenty of Fish (PoF) is the most popular dating site with claimed membership of the over 100 million members. It is definitely the most popular dating site in the US and United Kingdom - probably because it offers great features for free.

If you are planning, or are traveling, International Cupid dating site is Fabulous, click here to see for yourself.

The People You'll Meet on PoF

As the most popular dating site there are all sorts of characters and people using pof. However, after a while I noticed a trend - there are a lot of ratchet, hard core party girls. They look decent but you can tell from their profile picture and description that they aren't exactly premium, high grade girls on pof.

If anything, pof may is considered by some to be the "Myspace of dating sites". It's still there, but it's a little trashy which isn't always a bad thing. If you're looking to get laid then this is an easy place with a lot of girls who are looking to get laid.

For men and women alike on pof you'll see tons of images like

  • Countless bathroom selfies
  • Women with gangster tattoos
  • Hoop earrings

Here's a post about the POF HACK.

Plenty of Fish Selfie

If you're missing any of these in your life then go sign up for pof! You are personally guaranteed to see a ton of pictures that meet this description.

There are a ton of different people you can meet. For men, you'll see a lot of girls in the range of 18-30 who, with their pouting and provocative pictures, state that they need a real an to handle a real woman.

On the other side you'll have a slightly older guy in his late 20's to mid 30's that will have huge paragraphs about every detail of his life. This especially includes why he's single and using Plenty of Fish - despite his hate for online dating. Then he'll proceed to say he is glad he didn't make you bored.

(Just for the record, my friend Rachel told me about this - I wasn't actually checking out some dude's profiles!)

Here's an Awesome post about online dating:

Plenty of Fish Features

PoF LogoThe free version of PoF is pretty functional which is nice when compared to other sites. However, this is probably because it’s a site on the lower end of quality (both the site and the people you’ll meet).

The basic features are better than a lot of other free sites. The best ones include:

  • Profile description
  • Instant messaging
  • Access to awesome forums
  • “Meet me” feature that is used almost like a “wink” at them (or old Facebook’s poke)
  • Search functionality
  • Matching function (based on interests)

As you can see it has pretty much everything you need to get started. Most of these are pretty straight forward except maybe the matching function.

The matching function is based on how you answer a series of questions. I recommend doing the bare minimum since it's not great to begin with, but it helps to suggest some cute girls for you and you can cherry pick which ones are right for you.

Here's a different pof review.

How to Effectively Use Plenty of Fish

Other pof reviews somehow tend to skip this section (which is a big reason why readers kept emailing me for a review of Plenty of Fish). We'll go into detail about the most useful free features how to take advantage of them.

With its search function pof will help match you with people it believes you will like. However, the search function can't be used if you don't fill out the questions.

Fill out the bare minimum - it's not worth your time to fill out more unless you're really bored. After that take some time to play with and explore the site.

It's definitely one of the easiest sites to use since it resembles a lot of social media sites (we DID call it the myspace of dating sites). It creates an environment of familiarity with almost all users so the best thing to do is actually treat it like a social media site.

However, you actually want to stalk profiles and message girls you like because you have nothing to lose. It's not like social media where people have a newsfeed and will see what you are messaging.

Take advantage of it and just be pretty aggressive to women here. They usually respond well and most are down for one night stands or a casual relationship so it's perfect if you don't want anything serious.

If you do want something serious it requires more work - there's a lot of filtering to do on the site. You'll have to filter past all of the crazies, fake profiles, etc. It's totally possible to find love here... but it'll require a LOT more effort on your end.

Here's a great POF book, the Ultimate guide to POF .

Plenty of Fish Paid

To give a proper Plenty of Fish Review I tested both the free version and the paid version. If you're wondering about the upgrades and if it's worth it then you'll find this section particularly useful.

  • Profile shows up higher in search
  • Get more messages and emails
  • Access to more profiles
  • See who viewed your profile and when
  • See entire history of a profile (if you’ve messaged before, etc)
  • Ad-free PoF
  • See if people have read your messages/emails
  • Send 3 gifts/day
  • Upload 16 pics (instead of 8)

As you can see there are some pretty nice benefits to getting the paid feature on the pof app. The site claims the chances of getting your profile viewed is 3 times as much. I saw something closer to twice as much which isn't quite the 3 times but it's still a lot more. I'm not sure what is normal in this regard.

Regardless, twice the amount of profile views turned out to be a little less than twice the matches so I guess their claims must be true.

My favorite features of the pof app were:
1) Being able to see who viewed my profile and when
2) Full access to all profiles
3) Ability to see my history with a person when looking at their profile so I don't waste my time checking someone out I already have.

It's not totally necessary to find upgrade to the paid version if you want some success, but it sure does help. If I felt like having some more raunchy one nighters then I'd definitely sign up. In the 2 months of the paid version I was able to increase "my count" by 9 which is about one a week. Not too shabby if you ask me.

How to Get Girls on Plenty of Fish

Honestly, getting girls here is pretty similar to Tinder. You want to be aggressive on the pof app and use some classic pick up lines (you can find some examples of our favorite here)

If anything, you actually want to be more aggressive then Tinder. There are basically an unlimited amount of women on the pof app so you can just keep finding profiles and using lines to get some easy bangs.

Buff White GuyHowever, a small difference vs Tinder is that PoF girls seem to focus more on just looks and don’t read the profiles as much. This can be pro and a con depending on how good looking you are, but knowing this don’t spend 10 hours perfecting your profile description.

Just pick some bomb ass pictures and you’ll get plenty of chicks. Bonus points if you have awesome selfies, some tats, and muscles (though they’re definitely not required).

On the other hand I’m not sure how useful it is to use the site for long term relationships. It’s definitely not what I was chasing here but I can tell you there are a lot of crazies. Filter hard and filter smart. Don’t think with the wrong head.

Plenty of Fish | Conclusion

It's a decent site with a lot of options. Using the free version doesn't hurt, and the paid version is still pretty cheap. If you're satisfied with what the free version has to offer (spend at least 2 weeks testing it out) then there is no need to move on.

However, if you want more matches and want access to some better features I would say it's worth the money, but again not 100% necessary.

If you are looking for a long term relationship then you wan to use the paid version on the pof app. This will give you a better ability to filter out and you'll waste less time. There's a lot of girls out there who can and will waste your time so the extra features will definitely help you quickly score more quality dates.

  1. In my experience as a female on POF, I see so many pictures of men with fish in their hands or standing by their motorcycles. Some wear hunting clothes while others take pictures of themselves frowning and looking angry. It is a hoot. The quality of men on this site isn’t as great as and alot of them appear to be good old boys with their motorcycles, hunting gear, football games, etc. There is another category of pictures. Men with their grown children or a group of friends. Sometimes it’s hard to figure in the group picture who the POF guy is!!!

You have to love the blurry pictures, up the nose shots, and I have a large pot belly picture. Whoo hoo!!!

    1. Completely fake. 99.9% of the profiles are fake. Bots set up to entice you to pay for a membership. You’ll continue getting these blurred out messages you can’t read from beautiful women. All messages are from beautiful women, ALL of them. Once you pay you so you can read the messages, they’re nothing important and you no longer receive any messages except for the occasional one from management telling you to upgrade your membership. So that your profile will be more noticeable. It’s set up to hook you and have you pay for a membership. That’s all. Not a real dating site. Common sense tells you that a woman that is not so attractive can still get a man, and even an unattractive woman can get laid anytime she wants. So why in the world would they be on this site? They can go literally anywhere and find a man. Use your heads guys. The head with the brain. Go to a real dating site. This is not one of them.

  2. As a wedding photographer I meet a lot of couples that look for a wedding photographer. I remember in the summer of 2016 I had the biggest shock as I came to a realization that internet is the way most people now meet that special someone. I met up with 4 couples in 1 week, looking for a wedding photographer and they all met online. Today, just hired by another couple that specifically met online, on POF I decided to finally write a review. This said, I myself tried POF at the beginning of 2017 and met someone just 3 months ago, and yes we are both very happy, hoping this is it!

I loved that on POF I could write quite a few details about myself and have a chance to see more than just photos of the other person. I knew what was important to me and I wanted to find someone with similar values.

Wish all of you the best in your search

  3. I had posted some risque photos on my profile (not of me and not X-Rated). PoF removed them. Fine. Then soon after they removed all of my (perfectly presentable and clothed face shots) photos. I have not been able to upload any photos since (about two weeks ago). I paid for a three-month membership ($51) and essentially have been ripped off since the site is basically useless to me unless women can see my face photos.

I sent several emails to their “Help” department with no reply whatsoever. Now I am posting as many negative reviews as possible and taking this up with the suitable consumer fraud government agencies.

  4. Is PoF ageist? Does its software include an algorithm which automatically prevents men from contacting women who are more than ten years younger than themselves? If so, does anyone know a way round it? The reason I ask is that I’m a 73-year-old widower interested in dating a much younger woman (between 40 and 60). Women who contact me are all over 60, so I tried putting the above age requirements into ‘Search’ – only to find that all the profiles that were returned were for women (and one or two men) who are over 60. I tried using ‘My City’ and found two younger ladies to message – only to be informed by PoF that my messages had not been delivered and ordering me to confine my messaging to women who’s profiles appeared in ‘My Matches’. I tried messaging a woman under 60 who’s profile was amongst those in ‘My Matches’ – only to find that (surprise, surprise) the message hasn’t been delivered. I have now tried PoF ‘Help’ six times in an effort to find out if I’m wasting my time trying to use PoF to contact women more than ten years younger than myself – only to find that PoF doesn’t reply to help requests.

  5. What it really boils down to about this site and dating sites in general , from a man’s point of view(ladies I’m sure you have yours) is the following:
    1) you have these rude over-the-hill heffers that are fakes or with unrealistic expectations that are a 4 or maybe a 5 holding out for a 10! Get real!
    2) You have the type who is on here to see how much attention she can get for her looks. To those I say please move on. There are beauty pageants for that sort of thing. You just might not be as hot as you delusionaly think you are if you need POF as a beauty contest that you would probably not win in real life.
    3) Then you have the type who have less than stellar looks becoming overnight narcissists due to the attention they are getting in an environment with a 7 to 1 male/female ratio. Ladies get real. There are lots of guys who will tell you anything to get your cooperation. You know what I mean. So keep it real.
    4) Then you have the insecure types that have an account to make their boyfriends jealous. Keep looking, and you just might find your current boyfriend on here.
    5) And if they’ve been divorced, they’ve probably been slapped around quite a bit emotionally and/or physically and now have a twisted vendetta against men and delight in being rude or hostile to them, such as automatically blocking guys for no reason.
    6) Then we can’t leave out the heffers looking for a boy toy. Hey, if you were all that, your husband wouldn’t have divorced you to begin with.
    7) You have these kooks who are like 5′ or thereabouts, looking for a guy over 6′. Is she going to bring a step ladder on every date so she can kiss the guy?
    8) Which leaves us with the honest woman trying to honestly find a decent guy. But they are vastly outnumbered by the others. So good luck in finding her.

There are do many characters on POF I would say it’s more of a circus. Most of these clowns should be under a tent somewhere juggling torches while riding donkies

  6. I carry on listening to the news bulletin talk about receiving boundless online grant applications so I have been looking around for the most excellent site to get one. Could you tell me please, where could i acquire some?

  7. I know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting my own weblog and was curious what all is required to get set up? I’m assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny? I’m not very internet savvy so I’m not 100 positive. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks

  8. I simply wished to thank you very much once more. I do not know what I would’ve achieved in the absence of the type of opinions shown by you relating to this area. It had become the difficult case in my position, but seeing a new professional strategy you dealt with that took me to cry over happiness. I’m happy for the guidance and as well , hope you comprehend what a powerful job you were providing training the rest through the use of a web site. I am certain you haven’t encountered any of us.

  9. Apparently the Match Group wants to keep all your information and photos and use it as they see fit. All my information was wiped clean when I added this statement to my Plenty of Fish profile:
“WARNING” Please be advised effective January 3, 2019 and hereafter, Plenty of Fish, Tinder, Match, Meetic, OkCupid, OurTime, Pairs, Google Search, and all entities associated with and / or doing business with the Match Group are forbidden to utilize or disclose any information or photographs contained in this profile for studies, projects, advertising, sales, or for any other reason. The Match Group and all affiliated entities DO NOT have permission to use any information or photographs contained in my profile in any form, now or in the future. The contents of my profile are private and confidential information. All violations of this warning will be considered a violation of my privacy and will be punished to the full extent of law: (UCC 1-308-11308-103 and the Rome Statute). “Talk about Control Freaks”!

  10. The match system is run by a gang of drunk monkeys that throw darts to assess how to match people.

What I’ve learned based on use of the site:

Unattractive people assume those they find attractive should choose them for their interpersonal traits, but the same unattractive people would not date anyone that they didn’t find attractive. See how that works.

The separated and married people are looking for a relationship, but they’re technically still in a relationship, but they want someone legally single. See how that works.

The irony goes on and on with the dysfunction of pof, but it’s rare that the attraction is mutual and if it’s not it’s usually due to one of the above, or someone is crazy, or fake and so on.
