Question about why most people use platinumgod over the wiki (not trying to bash on platinumgod, I'm just genuinely curious)
From what I've seen in posts and comments, majority of players seem to use platinumgod. My question is, why is it so popular? I've never used it, because I find the wiki's interface a lot easier to comprehend, and the descriptions also feel a lot more accurate and detailed.
Like there's the "Twins" trinket, someone asked on reddit how it worked a few days after Repentance came out, I explained that it has a chance in each room to copy a familiar or it summons a brother bobby/sister maggy if you don't have any familiars, and someone in the comments said I was wrong, because platinumgod said it only gave brother bobby/sister maggy, and didn't say that it had a copy effect. (I just checked it and since that platinumgod corrected it, but still, the fandom wiki had an accurate description that matched my in-game experience, while platinumgod had incomplete information.)
Platinumgod also doesn't show (or at least I haven't seen it showing) how certain items were changed in DLCs. Take Rosary for example. On the wiki it shows what features are from which DLC, it shows all the Bible chances, details, and notes, while the platinumgod description feels very vague. The interface also looks a lot better in my opinion.
Can someone explain to me why most people still prefer platinumgod? I'm not trying to hate on it, I just find it odd that vast majority of people prefer that over the wiki. I know a common answer would be "because everyone can edit the wiki so it's not reliable", but I've never had any inaccuracies following it, and as I mentioned in my Twins trinket example, in my experience it's more accurate than platinumgod. (It also has a lot more details.)
I would expect there to be at least a 50%-50% split between wiki and platinumgod users, or even more for wiki, because it's more detailed and looks more organised as well. Based on the comments and posts I see, it's not the case though, and platinumgod seems to have a big lead in popularity.
When Repentance came out, platinum god just used the descriptions from Antibirth for most of the new items, and slowly corrected them.
I like platinum god better than the wiki but I use both. On platinum god it's just easy to get the information you need quickly. I know what pretty much every item does and sometimes just need to quickly look it up to remember. If I want more detailed information on the item and it's interactions and synergies I will look it up on the wiki.
Personally I find it to be more difficult to look for an item you can't remember the name of on the wiki. On platinum god you just type in (for example:) "blue" and it gives you all the blue items in a small space sorted by DLC.
Edit: A big plus for me is also that I don't have to load 50 different pages to look up a few items, it's all on the same page and there's no waiting around if your internet decides to be crappy sometimes.
That makes sense, didn't know you could look up items based on color on platinumgod. That sounds good for beginners. I also didn't know that the wiki was slower than platinumgod with bad connection. Luckily my connection is quite fast and stable, so I wasn't able to compare the loading speeds.
Thank you a lot for the explanation!
Whoa I didn't know the color thing either! What a clever idea.
It can search for a bunch of tags like "Book", "Devil", "Damage" that's what makes it convenient to me. But like I said, it's most useful when you need quick information opposed to detailed information.
Honestly they're best used in conjunction. Platinumgod for quick info since it's easier to access items on the fly and the wiki for when I want to know synergies, interactions and rules.
I use the wiki 100% of the time, because the synergies and interactions list at the bottom is the main thing I'm usually looking for.
Reddit is just a small sample of the playerbase. The wiki is more popular because it always shows first when google searching
I mostly use the wiki, but if I see an item on a pedestal and can't remember the name of it platinumgod is convenient since it shows all the item icons categorised by DLC
Personally I mainly use Platinum God for items I don’t know the name of, and the Wiki for ones I do
