PITTSFIELD TWP. -- Several members of the Pittsfield Promise slate that has controlled the Pittsfield Township Board of Trustees since 2008 will not seek re-election this year.

Supervisor Mandy Grewal announced that Trustees Michael Yi, Frank Lotfian and Stephanie Hunt will retire from the Board. Clerk Alan Israel previously told the Board he would not seek another term. Israel, 66, said his age and health are behind the decision.

Yi also serves on the Planning Commission and he said he intends to keep that position.

"Basically I am not really a politician and a little too independent. I ran eight years ago because I was asked to be on the team," he said.

The slate was first elected in 2008 and ran unopposed in 2012.

Linda Edwards-Brown, a Juvenile Court Administrator for the Washtenaw County Trial Court and part-time lecturer at Eastern Michigan University's school of social work, will seek one of the trustees' seats.

Yameen Jaffer, a small business owner in the township, will run for a vacant trustee position.

George Ralph, who serves on the Pittsfield Township Zoning Board of Appeals, serves on the Planning Commission and was one the township's first police officers, will also run for an open trustee seat.

Pittsfield Planning Commissioner Michelle Anzaldi is planning to run for the clerk's office.

"In light of a few retirements, the 2016 Pittsfield Promise team is re-energized and truly representative of our amazing and diverse community. While the retiring team members ... will be deeply missed, our new team members bring a strong set of skills, experience, and commitment to serve Pittsfield," Supervisor Mandy Grewal said in a statement.
