Infamous for grossing £205 on its opening weekend, Pimp has plenty of infamy and grossness to offer bar that. Writer-director-producer Robert Cavanah plays the unbelievable title role, a sensitive pimp who lets his girls have sick leave and nights off and whose inner white knight is roused by the plight of an illegal Chinese immigrant played by Gemma Chan. Chan, who's had a massive success recently with the Channel 4 SF drama Humans, recently said that she was proud never to have been cast in a racially stereotypical role.
She must have been suppressing this film. For all it wants to be a gritty, harrowing portrait of Soho's sex industry, the worst thing Cavanah's character does is not tell a…
bro thinks he’s guy ritchie. genuinely the most obnoxious film i have ever seen, words don’t describe how shit this is.
Filled to the brim with misogyny, racism, homophobia and transphobia, Pimp has cemented itself as the worst film I've ever watched.
I, regrettably, decided to watch this vulgarity again to see if I was over exaggerating about its awfulness. But alas, no, it truly is the worst film I've ever watched. I don't think I've ever watched a film that is as truly terrible as Pimp is. The camera work is awful and almost unwatchable and the dialogue is ripped out of a book that must surely be titled "1001 quotes to impress your primary school teachers with." The acting is abysmal as well, with Cavanah giving a truly awful performance as lead Woody who reacts to things in the…
Robert Cavanah both directs and stars in this disaster so he really can't hide his shame with this painful experience. Notoriously review poorly and for good reason, this has to be the worst mockumentary ever put to film and one of the worst British productions in general. A mindless look into the Soho sex scene offering nothing of reality showcasing a complete lack of any understanding about anything at all.
Although Cavanah is to blame it's Danny Dyer who walks away with the grand prize for being the most miscast abysmal thing here, even for the universally awful Dyer he really sinks into the gutter with this one. Whoever thought it was a good idea to put Dyer in the…
imma keep it real i did not finish this (sorry gemma chan) but it rocks that j.r.r. tolkien's great grandson produced a movie that's just called "pimp" and then starred in it as himself
Week in the life of a SoHo pimp as filmed by a documentary film crew is the setup for this as we are introduced to many sleazy undesirable characters as things get out of control with the crime boss and a rival Chinese gang. Typical British crime movie with not as much seemingly at stake to make you care too much.
Yes, it’s a Danny Dyer double bill. This time around he’s not the lead, but it gives him the chance to expand his range. I found out that he’s much funnier when he’s trying to be scary.
Pimp is set up as a documentary where two film makers trail around after Woody, a Soho pimp, for two weeks. Apparently the film makers thought this meant it was fine to film everything so badly that it gave me a headache. They favour a ludicrous amount of close-ups that make you think they have a phobia of filming people’s hair. They don’t even seem to know what aspect ratio they’re filming in. Happily, none of this distracts from the rest of the…
So boring!! I'm surprised that I'd really watch the whole film without fallin' asleep... What a disappointment!
