About
The Pike Place Market has been a defining Seattle icon for more than a century. Considered by many “the soul of Seattle,” the Market spans nine historic acres in the center of downtown where everyday locals and tourists alike shop, visit, eat and discover. Founded in 1907, the Market is one of the oldest and largest continuously operating public markets in the United States and is brought to life by the hundreds of farmers, crafters, small businesses, and residents that call it “home”. For more elbow room, visit on weekday mornings.

    GET THERE EARLY!
Arrive early & go straight to the main entrance where they throw the fish. Once there is a good crowd, they will start this very funny event. This is the only place they do this. The place is crowded & closes down early. It appears that between 3-4 pm, shops are winding down for the day. I found an affordable glass shop & purchased several items--much more affordable than master art glass blower Dale Chihuly (check out my review on Gardens of Glass).

    Really enjoyed this
We really enjoyed our day here. There are plenty of shops to see and the views were great. Really enjoyed seeing the markets either the fresh fish, produce and flowers. We thought the flowers were gorgeous and very reasonably priced for what you get. It was busy but didn’t seem to bother us. A must see in Seattle

    Public Market
A wonderful, crowded market with many craft sellers, flowers, knick knacks, seafood, and eateries throughout the area. About 3 blocks long, with a narrow center walk way, it is the center of tourism all around the market. It gets really crowded on most days so be prepared for it. Lots of places to snack and sample the food. Some public eating facing the water and plenty of bathrooms throughout the market area. Fish throwers are at the bend of the market. Lots of smaller shops on the lower levels. Easy to spend 3 hours around the area.

Crowded and touristy but worth it
Go early…expect big crowds and bring lots of money. The fish and seafood prices are highly inflated. Great vistas of the city and waterfront. Very touristy. Parking is difficult and expensive. Big influx of cruise ship passengers…Long lines (over 2 blocks to visit the original Starbucks). Still worth the visit. 😊

    Must do when in Seattle
Great place to spend a few hours, plenty of places to eat and shop. Watch the fish flying around and generally enjoy the buzz. We had great snacks at Pikes Fish bar.

Must do when you are in Seattle.
Pike Place has a lot of great shops and of course watching the fish being thrown is entertaining. The only drawback is how crowded it is. It was difficult getting around with the number of people milling around and the lines to get into the restaurants were long and most do not take reservations.

    Even in the Rain
I know that there have been hundreds of thousands of reviews written on pikes market in Seattle but I had to add to them. We were in Seattle on the last leg of our Alaskan cruise and ventured into downtown Seattle and found their way over to pikes market. I’ve been to many outdoor markets from LA to San Francisco to Boston and pikes market with its rich history did not disappoint. Even the nasty gum wall was interesting and found us taking pictures and just commenting on why but it was interesting and it accomplish what it is doing right now, having me talk about it.

    Fun, but very crowded
Pike Place Market is one of those must see places while in Seattle, if only to see the Flying Fish. They were so friendly there and even let two young boys try to catch fish (they made sure that they were both successful, even though it took quite a few tries). The staff didn't mind all the people milling around just watching and they were also quite busy selling their wares.

Most of the tabulars are sold out!
The market is home to the first store of the famous Starbucks Coffee. There is always a long line in front of the store as many customers visit. However, you can enter the store after waiting for 20 to 30 minutes. Eating and drinking are not allowed inside the store. All drinks are take-out. In addition, original goods of the first store are sold. However, most types of tumblers were sold out. I stayed in Seattle for a week and visited every day during that time, but the sold-out tumblers were never restocked. All the staff were helpful and friendly. During the daytime there is a large line of customers, but in the evening it is quite empty. However, most of the other markets are closed in the evening, so you won't be able to enjoy shopping.

    Like the Mash
Be prepared to mash up with the throng at the market. Everyone in Seattle takes a turn to elbow their way around the selection of wares. It was a wonderful thing to see and especially the entertaining fish throwers. Wish I had been prepared with my camera as it is done only when the crowd gets them going. There is something for everyone and many levels to choose from. Go and keep your friends close.

Of course, Pike Place Market is a must for tourists. We didn't find many (if any) unique eats inside the actual market, but it's still cool to walk around. Florists preparing various arrangements (it was poppin' since we went right on Valentine's Day), local artists, clothing, crafts, and of course all the fish stalls. Don't miss seeing all the giant snow crab legs, and the giant salmon. Try to go early - we went at around 3 and it was very crowded.

What an excellent place to visit! I have never been in such a vibrant place. Everything is so well displayed - I’ve never seen so many different types of fruit and vegetables neatly displayed in one place! Also the fish counters again beautifully displaying their wares and had quite an audience when they started throwing fish around! snowflakes in England wouldn’t allow the fish throwing! But it all adds to the atmosphere of the place. We visited the Athena restaurant where apparently some of Sleepless in Seattle was filmed and they were very accommodating as we only wanted a coffee! However all the food looked delicious! A great place well worth a visit!

Walking down Capitol hill to Pikes market on a spring morning we were just like any of the other annual 10 million visitors who visit it each year. Opened in 1907 on the edge of a steep hill overlooking Elliott bay, it is one of the oldest continuously operated public markets in the Country. It consists of several levels, with a variety of unique shops, ranging from food vender to restaurants, flower sellers, book stores and flower stalls. The Street level is the most popular, with its Fish throwing venders and pig with its brass plaque for market foundation Piggy Bank. When we arrived, there were street musician’s sitting outside playing lively jigs. After walking around for a couple of hours we had Lunch at Athenian Seafood Restaurant, a great place to take a break from being a tourist and watch the Ferries sail by in comfort.

TIP: This Restaurant featured in Sleepless in Seattle, and has a plaque so you can take a photo sitting where Tom Hanks’ sat

We were at Pike Place Market around 5 pm. It was insanely busy on a week day in early October. Fortunately, we had a handicap parking pass and there was 1 spot left just right of the main entrance, otherwise we might of had to skip this place. I would definitely recommend going earlier in the day. Most of the shops were empty or closing up shop when we got there. The fish shop was closing, the flower shop was open. There's all kinds of interesting stores there...magic shop, food places, candy store, etc. There was a neat sitting area where you could see the harbor and the big ferris wheel. It is an iconic Seattle landmark, and it's close to Seattle's Gum Wall. Security was patrolling the area outside and inside of the market.

This is an open market venue with every.thing. Food, flowers, sundries, restaurants. Large with several levels of shops and bakeries. This is popular amongst locals and tourists. The Starbucks line is looking long each time we went and we tried a few of the food stalls and restaurants. Seating is extremely limited to nonexistent. Don't plan on sitting to eat. Parking is A BEAR! Flowers are the most inexpensive I've seen anywhere and a large assortment of boquets. Recommended visit!

Every city has one. Los Angeles has the Redondo Beach, San Francisco has the Fisherman's Warf & Seattle has the Pike's market ! The Pike's marker reflect the unique personality of the city of Seattle. Of course, the usual fish market, the florist plus many specialty shops besides of the first Starbuck coffee shop ! Summer time is always a mad house where tourist stops to take pictures at every corner !!!! Definitely a cool place for Seattle visitors to spend half a day !!

This is essentially a local food market but there are many stalls and shops offering handcraft and tourist gifts. As a result there are a mix of locals and tourists milling through the stalls set over a number of floors. (There are a number of floors dropping down behind the front fascade). The original Starbucks is opposite as are a number of popular eateries so be prepared to queue. Nevertheless this is a nice place to visit for a couple of hours. Window shopping is cheaper as there are no bargains as you perhaps would expect at a market elsewhere.

We visit pretty frequently as we have a lot of out of town guests visit. Go see the gum wall and add a piece; try the pork buns, listen to the street piano player, and pick up some gorgeous flowers at the market. We've never actually bought fresh seafood here, but we have bought some of the more exotic fruits. The Starbucks is always busy and has a huge line but the employees are super friendly and helpful.

The Pike Place Market is easily one of Seattle's most interesting attractions. It's just a hunch on my part but I figure that there are usually more tourist than local visitors there on any given day. The central focus is the section just under the enormous market sign with the bronze statue of Rachel the pig positioned in front of a rather well-known fresh seafood stall where staff impress with their fish tossing skills. Other stalls include florists, greengrocers, artisans, candy specialists, and clothing stalls. But there are many more sections both one floor down and around the section with barbers, souvenir shops, and more clothing stalls. And it was in one of the quieter stalls in the arcade-like corridors downstairs that I received a very personalised welcome to the city by the store owner (such a nice lady). And don't forget the food stalls on the periphery of the market - it's not possible to go hungry on any visit.

This market is like no other! We took a walking food tour. Having a guide to point things out and answer questions is the way to go. We were able to sample food from several different restaurants. Our guide was on her game when two restaurants weren’t able to accommodate us with sample, even though they were on the schedule, she was able to quickly find replacements. Made for an enjoyable walk through the market.

The flower vendors are amazing. Large bouquets of fresh colorful flowers for $10. I’m not sure why a flower market like this doesn’t happening other places I’ve been to.
