Lizzo – Phone Lyrics | Genius Lyrics

Phone Lyrics

[Chorus]
Where the hell my phone? Where the hell my phone?
Where the hell my, where the hell my phone, huh?
How I'm 'posed to get home?
Where the hell my phone? Where the hell my phone?
Where the hell my, where the hell my phone, huh?
How I'm 'posed to get home?

[Verse 1]
Okay, 2:15 and the lights come on, where my phone?
Looking around like where my phone?
Looking where my homies went
Where the hell my homies went?
Where the hell my homies went?
How I'm 'posed to get home?
How I'm 'posed to get home?
Walking home with my feet on sore
Walking home with my feet on sore
What the hell these Louboutins for?
What the hell these Louboutins for?

Walking home and it's damn near 4
Walking home and it's damn near 4
What the hell these Louboutins for?
What the hell these Louboutins for?
Yeah, I was getting it, looking real cute
Up in the club, man, how do you do?
Hair ain't a don't, hair is a do
Ooh, he fine! What's up with you?

[Post-Chorus]
Ooh, unlock that, all up in my contacts
Hoo, unlock that, all up in my contacts
Hoo, unlock that, all up in my contacts
Hoo, unlock that, all up in my contacts
Oh my god, why?

[Verse 2]
Yeah, and I seen that boy
Looked at me, but I got annoyed
'Cause he bought me a drink for a dolla'
Boy came over and he wanted to holla'
Boy came over and he wanted to holla'
Boy came over and he wanted to holla'
My song came on, so I hit the dance floor
Man I lost my, mmm, phone
Walking home with my feet on sore
Walking home with my feet on sore
What the hell these Louboutins for?
What the hell these Louboutins for?
Walking home and it's damn near 4
Walking home and it's damn near 4
What the hell these Louboutins for?
I don't know where I'm going

[Post-Chorus]
Ooh, unlock that, all up in my contacts
Hoo, unlock that, all up in my contacts
Hoo, unlock that, all up in my contacts
Hoo, unlock that, all up in my contacts
Ooh, unlock that, all up in my contacts
Hoo, unlock that, all up in my contacts
Hoo, unlock that, all up in my contacts
Hoo, unlock that, all up in my contacts

[Chorus]
Where the hell my phone? Where the hell my phone?
Where the hell my, where the hell my phone, huh?
How I'm 'posed to get home?
Where the hell my phone? Where the hell my phone?
Where the hell my, where the hell my phone, huh?
How I'm 'posed to get...
But you're holding it
Oh

Genius Annotation

“Phone” is the second single from Lizzo’s debut extended play, entitled ‘'Coconut Oil’‘. The song was released 19 September 2016.

It discusses about how the world is slowly being consumed by its surroundings, specifically technology, and forgetting it’s real purpose. For instance, Lizzo sings about phones and how many people use it for social media, gaming, and many other uses. However, what people fail to realize is a phone’s real purpose, which is to call somebody, and that people can get so wound up in what else technology can do besides that.

In a 2019 Zachary Campbell interview Lizzo says this song was written in 10 minutes. Lizzo also says she was looking for her phone and was ask people “Where the f*ck my phone.” E. Bogart is one of the writers on this song wrote Halo and produced for Sia. Some heard her saying that, and they asked if it was a song and Lizzo said no it’s just something we say. So they immediately stopped the song they were working on, and the producer was told to play a little drum beat, and she starts singing the same line over and over “Where the hell my phone.” Lizzo says that it was Evan Bogart who was kind of her hypeman shouting out ideas of things for her to talk about, this song is mostly freestyled.

What did Lizzo say about "Phone"?
Genius Answer

On Zachary Campbell’s collaborative episode of “That’s a Bop” with Lizzo, she stated:

I made that song in ten minutes. The person who produced this, produced “Chandelier” by Sia and the person who they put me in the studio to write with that day wrote “Halo” by Beyoncé. So, we’re in the studio together and we’re working on this big anthemic song and I was like “Where the fck my phone? Where the fck my phone?” cause I was looking for my phone. So he looked at me and said, “Wait, is that our song?” and I said, “Oh no it’s not a song. That’s just something that I say.” He suddenly said, “Let’s stop this song. Let’s write that one.” He looked at the producer and said to just do a little beat and he was like, “Easy”.

The reason why the song sounds the way it does, like the same line over and over, is because I was standing at the microphone and Evan Bogart said to me, “Say "Where the hell my phone?”. Now talk about your shoes. Now there’s a guy at the bar.“ and I started freestyling about those points and it happened within that moment. When I was done, they chopped up all the parts and made the song right then and there and we were done in ten minutes.
