Monsoon recap: Storms roll through the Valley Friday, some areas receive over 2 inches of rainfall

This weekend's forecast shows that Arizona is most definitely in the heart of Monsoon 2022.

ARIZONA, USA — Strong storms moved through the Valley on Friday afternoon dumping rain and leaving thousands without power. 

As of 4:45 p.m. Friday, around 19,000 customers throughout the Valley are without power. For updated information visit SRP or APS power outage maps.

The chance for strong winds, flash floods and blowing dust remains high through the weekend.

9:03 p.m. - Powerful storms rolled through the East Valley this afternoon. Check out this time-lapse taken by a 12News viewer.

8:33 p.m. - Flooding from Hayden south of Chaparral in Scottsdale Friday.

7:02 p.m. - Lightning shot from Friday's monsoon.

6:55 p.m. - Don't swim or enter flooded washes.

6:54 p.m. - Aguila has received over 1.5 inches of rain. Use caution while driving on Eagle Eye Road.

6:35 p.m. - People swimming in Cactus Park.

6:34 p.m. - A mess near Scottsdale and Cactus. Several poles and power lines came crashing down this afternoon hitting 18 cars. The streets remain closed.

5:33 p.m. - Intense storms, heavy rains, strong winds and blowing dust west of the Valley.

5:18 p.m. - Wash flowing near Hayden and Shea in Scottsdale

5:05 p.m. - Doubletree Ranch between VIa Los Caballos and 66th and Invergordon between Horseshoe and El Maro are closed in both directions for flooding.

4:58 p.m. - Car getting towed out of a flooded street near Shea and Hayden in Scottsdale.

4:49 p.m. - Rainfall totals as of 4:45 p.m. Friday afternoon.

4:38 p.m. - Flash flood warning in effect until 7:45 p.m. for portions of Coconino and Navajo counties.

4:36 p.m. - Scottsdale and Paradise Valley are among the areas getting hit the hardest Friday afternoon by the monsoon.

4:23 p.m. - Flash flood warning in place until 8:15 p.m. for Scottsdale and Paradise Valley.

4:18 p.m. - Flash flood warning in effect until 7:15 p.m. for portions of Yavapai County.

4:11 p.m. - Standing water at Loop 101 at Cactus. Motorists should expect delays in both directions.

4:08 p.m. - Scottsdale and Hayden roads north of Cactus Road is blocked due to down power lines.

Scottsdale police say the issue is storm-related. The road will remains closed until further notice.

Additionally, there are a variety of issues from power outages to flooding, downed trees and other incidents around that area on Hayden, Shea, Cactus, Sweetwater, Thunderbird, Raintree, etc.

4:05 p.m. - New thunderstorms are developing near and north of downtown Phoenix

4:00 p.m. - Meteorologist Jamie Kagol provides you with the latest storm updates throughout the Valley online at 12news.com.

3:45 p.m. - The depth of the storm near Loop 101 in North Scottsdale shows potential for hail up to quarter size in the area. 66 mph winds were reported at Scottsdale Airport.

3:40 p.m. - Rain is starting to fall in the East Valley Friday afternoon. Storms are expected to move across the Phoenix metro area over the next few hours.

3:40 p.m. - Runoff beginning in the Cave Creek area. Visit The Flood Control District of Maricopa County's website to see real-time conditions.

3:30 p.m. - Severe thunderstorm warning in effect until 4 p.m. across the Valley - Phoenix, Mesa, Chandler, Glendale, Scottsdale, Gilbert Tempe, Avondale - among those impacted.

3:20 p.m.: Phoenix, Mesa and Glendale are under a severe thunderstorm warning until 4 p.m.

3:10 p.m.: Flash flood warning issued for Midway

3:04 p.m.: Apache Junction and Fountain Hills are under a severe thunderstorm warning. 

2:37 p.m. - Severe thunderstorm warning in effect for Queen Creek, Chandler Heights and Higley until 3:15 p.m. Friday.

2:21 p.m. - Storms hitting the eastern edge of the Valley. They are expected to approach from the southeast over the next couple of hours.

2:45 p.m. - Severe thunderstorm warning in effect for areas in the far East Valley.

2:15 p.m. - Multiple thunderstorm warnings surround Metro Phoenix, but not in the metro area as of now.

2:08 p.m. - Dust storm warning issued for the southeast Valley until 3 p.m. Blowing dust, rain and limited visibility are all expected hazards.

2:04 p.m. - Severe thunderstorm warning issued for areas including Apache Junction, Gold Canyon and Queen Valley until 2:45 p.m.

1:57 p.m. - Intense downpours leading to flash flooding of low-lying areas, strong winds producing dust storms around the lower deserts. Storms are expected to hit the Valley this afternoon.

1:56 p.m. - Blowing dusting on Loop 202 Santan near McQueen

1:44 p.m. - Pea-sized hail and strong wind are hitting Cave Creek, Carefree and Rio Verde. A special weather statement is issued for those areas.

1:43 p.m. - Storms are expected in the Valley from the east and southeast this afternoon and evening. Strong winds, intense downpours and hail are possible.

1:41 p.m. - Severe thunderstorm warning in effect until 2:15 p.m. impacting Eloy, Picacho and Red Rock.

1:27 p.m. - Dust storm warning in effect for the I-10 near Phoenix, Mesa

1:16 p.m. - Activity is expected to fill in during the next several hours over the lower deserts of south-central Arizona, including the Phoenix metro area.

1:00 p.m. - Hail and strong winds are hitting Casa Grande, Maricopa and Ak-Chin Village, causing a special weather statement to be issued.

12:16 p.m. - Gila Bend is under a flash flood warning.

12:00 p.m. - Massive amounts of rain are being reported around the state.

10:30 a.m. - US 89 is closed in both directions outside of Flagstaff due to flooding, according to ADOT officials. There was no estimated reopening time given.

10:25 a.m. - Quartzsite and La Paz Valley are under a flash flood warning.
