MANILA, Philippines — A low-pressure area (LPA) that is expected to develop into a typhoon in the next few days has entered the Philippine area of responsibility.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the brewing storm was last sighted some 700 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur yesterday.

If it indeed strengthens and becomes Typhoon Paeng as projected, the state weather bureau said it has a high possibility of making landfall.

Based on the direction it is going so far, PAGASA said the low-pressure area that is embedded in the intertropical convergence zone has two possible tracks.

State weather experts who are monitoring its movement said the potential typhoon may make landfall either in Eastern Visayas or Northern Luzon.

For the time being, it is yet to affect the country, while the northeast monsoon is being felt mostly in Northern Luzon provinces.

For the next three days, PAGASA said Metro Manila and Baguio City are forecast to experience fair weather conditions with chances of isolated rains.

The Bicol region is forecast to have good weather tomorrow, but will be cloudy with scattered rains and thunderstorms by Wednesday and Thursday because of the approaching low-pressure area.

PAGASA said most parts of the Visayas are expected to be cloudy with scattered rains on Tuesday and Thursday, while Mindanao will have fair weather tomorrow and Wednesday, but is forecast to be cloudy with scattered rains and thunderstorms by Thursday.
