great map for outdoor adventures, but incomplete without city views
This is a large map of the Philippines, made of plastic that feels like paper but is waterproof and more durable. Because of its size, it is cumbersome to open and fold back up...unfolding it in a car is not something you'd want to do. It shows the northern half of the country on one side, southern half on the opposite side. I always prefer to see the entire country on one side. But it has a good amount of detail and shows many places and points of interest. This is a 'real' map, much better than typical tourist maps. As with other National Geographic maps, the cartography is first-rate and pleasant to look at.However, despite being large, with lots of space to work with, there are no city closeups. None. There are several photos of tourist locations, but they take up a lot of space. Several small or medium-sized inset maps of Manila and the other largest cities or metro regions could easily have been fit in - and would have been much more useful and appreciated than pretty pictures and empty ocean space.Nonetheless, this is a very good map if you want an emphasis on outdoor adventures more than urban destinations, so the title 'Adventure Map' is appropriate. Many things like volcanoes, diving locations, reefs, beaches, hot springs, national parks are shown. See the map legend in my product review pics.Update: I recently discovered the Periplus Philippines Travel Map (I'm talking about the Periplus Travel Map, not to be confused with the somewhat similar Periplus Wall Map). It's a folding travel map made of glossy paper (not waterproof like this one), but it has the advantage of 1) showing the entire country on one side, and 2) has lots of very decent city/region closeups. It's less of an outdoor adventure map, more of a general-purpose driving and navigating map.
