Siempre le encantó la combinación de cine y música . A los 17 años dejó la escuela de cine para seguir una carrera en la música. La primera oportunidad de Peter Gabriel de casarse realmente con estas dos pasiones se produjo cuando se le pidió que creara la música para la película de Alan Parker,” Birdy”en 1985.
Además, su trabajo cinematográfico, incluida su música para “The Last Temptation of Christ” de Martin Scorsese ,que luego se convirtió en el álbum “Passion “ y la banda sonora de la película “Rabbit-Proof Fence” de Philip Noyce ,lanzado como el álbum “Long Walk Home “fueron otros trabajos formidables.
