Email Renewal Notices FAQ Vehicle Services


What will happen when I sign up?
Your email address will be associated with your vehicle registration. You will immediately receive an email receipt confirming your enrollment in the program from the email address RenewalNotice@ilsos.net.


When will I receive my email Renewal Notice?
You will receive an email renewal notice in the month prior to your expiration month. If you haven't renewed, you will receive a second email during the month you expire. If your license plate registration expires, you will receive a third email shortly after the expiration date. For example, if your license plate registration expires May 31st, you would receive your first email renewal notice in mid-April. If not renewed, you would receive a second email reminder in May. If allowed to expire, a third email reminder would follow shortly after the expiration date in June.


How do I know if my email address is already associated with my vehicle registration?
You can log into Email Renewal Notices with your Registration ID and PIN. If you are currently signed up your email will display.

How can I change or update my email address?
Log into Email Renewal Notices with your Registration ID and PIN. You will have the option to update your email address.


Can I have more than one email address associated with my vehicle registration?
No.


What information is included in the email renewal notice?
The Plate number, vehicle year, vehicle make, expiration date, late fee information (if expired), Registration ID and PIN and the link to the online License Plate Renewal application if eligible to renew online. If you are not eligible to renew online, a link to Secretary of State Facility Finder is provided. Emission test requirements will also be listed if applicable.


Why do I need a Registration ID and PIN?
Your Registration ID and PIN provides secured access to Email Renewal Notices and the online License Plate Renewal application.


Where Can I find my Registration ID and PIN?
Your Registration ID and PIN are located on your most current registration card.

What should I do once I receive my email renewal notice?
Follow the instructions included in the email notice to renew your license plates sticker.


What email address should I add to my Spam filter so that I am sure to receive the email renewal notice?
Please add RenewalNotice@ilsos.net to your spam filter.


Can I add a mobile phone number to receive a Text or SMS message?
No.


Can I remove my email address and opt out of receiving email renewal notices?
Yes. Log into Email Renewal Notices with your Registration ID and PIN for the opt out option.


Are you going to sell my email address?
No, we will not sell your email address. It will be used to send notifications as necessary.


Will my Illinois EPA vehicle emissions testing notice be emailed to me?
The Illinois Secretary of State's Office does not mail (or email) the testing notice from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. However, if your vehicle is required to comply with an Illinois EPA emissions test prior to purchasing your license plate registration sticker, a testing reminder will be included in your email notice.


Will my driver's license renewal notice be emailed to me?
No.
