今天想跟大家聊聊 person、persons、people、peoples，這四個字大家可能都看過，但如果要詳細說出它們各自的差異時，或許就會冒出許多疑問 🤔，像是 persons 跟 people 都是複數形，它們有什麼不一樣呢？people 已經是複數形，怎麼還有 peoples 這個字呢？相信許多英文學習者都有這些疑惑，所以今天就一起來認識這四個字的用法及差別吧！Let’s get started!
Person（人）的用法
首先來談談大家熟悉的 person，它的中文翻譯為「人」，是單數的可數名詞，不管是一個男人、女人或小孩，都可以用 person 來表示。
Mandy was the first person to arrive at the restaurant.
Mandy 是第一個到餐廳的人。The movie ticket is NT$250 per person.
電影票是每人臺幣 250 元。Do you know the person dancing on the stage?
你認識在舞臺上跳舞的那個人嗎？
Persons（人）的用法
persons 是 person 的複數型 ，但只有在比較正式的場合或文件，例如公告、法律文件、公文等，才會用 persons。
此外，有些特定的詞彙也較常跟 persons 搭配，例如：unauthorized persons（未經許可的人）、missing persons（失蹤人口）、persons of interest（嫌疑人）、displaced persons（流離失所者）。
The elevator holds up to six persons.
這部電梯最多搭載六個人。The five missing persons were all found this morning.
失蹤的五個人今早都被找到了。Unauthorized persons are not allowed to enter the laboratory.
未經許可的人都不准進入這間實驗室。
People（人）的用法
person 有兩個複數形，一個是剛剛提到的 persons，另一個就是 people。people 意思是「人們」或「大家」。除了正式文件，大多數情況下，都會用 people 當作 person 的複數。
people 的使用方式很簡單，單數情況時是 one person，當兩人或兩人以上時，就可以用數字或 many、some 等數量詞搭配 people，例如 two people、some people。
Over one hundred people took part in the singing competition.
超過一百個人參加這場歌唱比賽。Many people spend lots of time on their mobile phones these days.
現今許多人花大量的時間在手機上。We have got to do what we can to bring people together.
我們必須竭盡所能讓大家團結在一起。
📝 小補充：the people
另外，想特別跟大家分享 the people，它的意思是「百姓」、「人民」，一樣是複數形名詞。
The government should pay attention to what the people really need.
政府應該關心人民真正需要的是什麼。
People(s)（民族）的用法
people 除了可以表示人，其實還有另一個意思是「民族」，這時候 people 是可數名詞，它的複數形就是 peoples，所以一個民族的寫法是 a people，兩個就是 two peoples。
The British are thought as a polite people.
英國人被認為是彬彬有禮的民族。The Maori are a people living in New Zealand.
毛利人是住在紐西蘭的民族。The Japanese and Chinese are known as hard-working peoples.
日本人、華人是眾所皆知非常辛勤工作的民族。It’s essential to respect the customs of different peoples when you travel to foreign countries.
去國外旅行時，尊重不同民族的風俗習慣是很重要的。
