SEASONAL LOAD LIMITS

Effective Monday, March 4, 2024, Seasonal Spring Load Limits are no longer in effect on Pennington County asphalt roads east of SD Highway 385.

Load Limits remain in effect on Pennington County asphalt roads west of SD Highway 385. These roads are posted at 7 tons per axle. Included in this restriction is the gravel segment of Rochford Road from the end of the asphalt to the Lawrence County line.
Perpetual load limit restrictions of 6 tons per axle continue on Long View Road from East Highway 44 to Radar Hill Road, Old Folsom Road from Lower Spring Creek Road to Lamb Road, and South Valley Drive from East Minnesota Street to Blanche Drive.

 

Proposed Vacation Home Rental Ordinance Public Hearing

Monday, April 22, 2024 @ 9:00 a.m.

The Pennington County Planning Commission will be considering an ordinance to establish regulations and standards for owners of Vacation Home Rental (VHR) properties in Pennington County for the protection of the public health, safety, and welfare. If adopted, the Ordinance would apply to all VHRs within Pennington County outside the jurisdiction of an incorporated municipality.

Do you need a burn permit?

Open fires within the Black Hills Forest Fire Protection Boundary (West of Highway 79 in Pennington County) fall under the regulations of the Black Hills Forest Fire Protection District. Open fires are prohibited unless in a designated campground or picnic area. 

Private property locations MUST obtain permits for open burning, fireplaces, and incinerators through the SD Wildland Fire Suppression Division Office in their area.

Pennington County Fire Administration does not issue burn permits.
