Somers is 6-foot 185-pounds. Ran 60 in 7.45 Offensively, starts in a slight crouch with feet positioned just outside shoulder length. Hands start above shoulder. Load is started with a foot stride and hands load straight back. Load creates arm bar. Slight pull off in finish. Exit Velocity 83.
Defensively - took reps in the infield and at catcher during fielding portion. Has quick, agile feet behind the plate. Pop times came in between 2.09 and 2.11. Velo to 2B was 73. In the infield, throws came in at 82 - threw from high-3/4 slot. Very short arm action, choppy feet, average exchange.



Winter Trials North (December 6, 2015)

Somers is a 5-foot-11, 195 pound 2B/C prospect from Pope John XXIII. He is a right-handed swinger who utilizes a small stride into toe tap before landing. He possesses bat speed and a high finish, squaring up balls nicely, especially to his pull side. He shows a solid, low setup behind the dish with soft hands and the ability to frame the low ball. He blocks extremely well and funnels nicely to the center of the diamond. He showed 76 MPH arm strength behind the dish. In the infield, he looks a bit raw, coming up a tad early on the grounder. He has good arm strength with carry.
