What travelers are saying
- Sophia BNew Jersey4 contributionsWe were so lucky to get tickets to see Swan Lake, it was the most spectacular show. The building is so grand and the staff were so helpful and friendly. The tickets were expensive and the drinks too, but in the end the evening was one we will never forget.
One night of classical joy.Written April 22, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. This was a great museum and throughly enjoyable to explore. There was access to all the different areas and a real eye opener into how the ship was run and how technology has advanced. The staff and volunteers on board very knowledgeable. I would visit again.Written April 22, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Most likely, you will land at Heathrow and go to a Central London hotel with all your luggage using underground. And like me you would use google. What I realized was that google gives you workable information, but not necessarily optimized one.
For example, google told me to take the Piccadilly line to South Kensington and then change to district line to St James Court (I was going to St James Court - Taj). What I did not realize was that I had to haul my luggage up & down the stairs to do the transfer - which was not very convenient.
While returning, google gave me the exact opposite route with transfer at S Kensington. But when I did some additional research (where I did not find adequate conclusive data/recommendations), and took some risks, I found better alternatives. What I am describing is my journey back from Central London to Heathrow - but I believe it works in the other direction too.
First, there are really three options - go to a "junction" like Paddington to take Heathrow Express (most expensive) or Victoria Line train (somewhat expensive) to simply use the regular commuter line to reach to/from Heathrow to Central London. The time difference being insignificant in grand scheme of things, I decided to take commuter train - and my entire experience is based on that.
If you are new to London tube, you need to know couple of things. Sometimes there are multiple stations with very similar names (eg there are four different stations with Kensington - but it is not easy to transfer from one station to the other).
Second, even if you have connecting trains from the exact same station, you may have to change platforms and there is no guarantee that the station has elevators to help you haul your luggage. In fact, south Kensington is one such station that is used to transfer back & forth from Piccadilly to District line - which involves change of platform with no elevators. However if you do that same transfer in Baron's Court (2 stations apart) - you literally get down on one side of the platform and walk to the other side without needing to climb stairs. Eg - you get down at platform 1 and board from platform 2 (just the other edge of the platform). Hammersmith and (possibly) Turnham Green stations are like that too - if you are changing between Piccadilly and district.Written April 10, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Spent quite a long time in each room watching the paintings change which was fascinating. Our only bugbear was a couple of young mothers with prams standing in the midst of a couple of the rooms, chatting loudly about their babies and general conversations, completely oblivious to their surroundings or anyone else's enjoyment. They should've stayed in the cafe, or the park across the road! We moved on, but it did rather spoil our complete experience.... Well stocked shop - didn't use the cafe, but it looked OK.Written April 17, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Candice MSwanley, UK571 contributionsWhat a great little museum. You cannot help but smile. My third visit and planning another trip soon. We found a lot of like minded people and we all chatted and reminisced on our way round. Do not miss the TV showing all the old adverts. A huge crowd gathered and we all sang along....brilliant. Great fish and chip shop round the corner for lunch. Grove fish and chips. Tripadvisor shows it as closed but very much open. Lovely freshly cooked meals and spotlessly clean.
Great day out and very reasonably priced entry. Fun shop with fair prices. A hidden gem.Written April 24, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. * The main focus of political and historical London
* packed in here are the most amazing tourist sites that are all essential for a visitor to London- from Westminster Bridge past the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben to Parliament Square, Westminster Abbey, the UK Supreme Court and on through St. James Park to Buckingham Palace and other royal stuff and then down The Mall through Admiralty Arch to everything in Trafalgar Square.
CONS
Too much "stuff" to ever do in only one or two days
"I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
... because I visited each and every one of those things that I mentioned above- and more- see all of my "helpful" individual reviews and photos of those separate attractions.
WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
The stroll through the Westminster area is free.
WOULD "I VISIT THIS PLACE" AGAIN?
For aure- every visit to London must include some if not all of the places here.
ADVICE
As stated, you must come here- no visit to London is complete without it.Written February 5, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We had a nice walk round the park to the viewpoint and then to the kids play area. The play area was really good, with a sandpit and lots of fun slides. We walked a bit further and found ourselves in the flower gardens, these fields were lovely and in immaculate condition. - Lauren K1 contributionFriendly and helpful staff. Mixture of women’s and men’s content to see, however, could be improved on the women’s side but still enjoyable. - Sidney G12 contributionsMuseum is interesting. What could be done better is the direction signs from the River Pier. Front of the museum is covered in building work. Asked direction and was told the museum was closed. Asked at the travel information and was directed to the park entrance. It just goes to show the lack of thought that goes into trying to attract customers.Written April 24, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
