Paris Hilton, Mom Kathy Under Fire Over New Video

Paris Hilton, Mom Kathy Under Fire Over New Video

On January 16 Paris Hilton and her husband Carter Reum welcomed their son Phoenix Barron Hilton Reum via surrogate—and now she's being slammed for how she holds him.

Hilton decided to keep Phoenix's birth a secret, with the couple even hiding the baby's arrival from their immediate families until right before the socialite broke the news on social media.

Now people are criticizing Paris Hilton and her mother Kathy Hilton, for how they held Phoenix in a video that has gone viral online.

In the Season 2 trailer for Peacock's Paris in Love, which airs November 30, the reality star presented her mom with her newborn son. This was the first time that the pair were introduced.

"Your grandson, Phoenix Barron Hilton Reum," Paris Hilton said in the throwback footage. Amid tears, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum Kathy Hilton asked her daughter whether she was "serious." Paris Hilton then handed her son over to her mother, with people online now mocking the way both women hold him.

Newsweek reached out to representatives for Paris and Kathy Hilton for comment via email Wednesday.

A social media user posted the clip to X, formerly Twitter, on November 28 and as of November 29, it has almost reached 4 million views.

"I'm deeply unsettled by this clip of Kathy Hilton meeting Paris's son for the first time," they captioned the video.

People took to the replies to also share their concerns.

"Phoenix was fighting for his life with two women who seemingly have never held a baby before," one person wrote.

"Has she...? Has she never holded one single child in an arm before?" asked another.

"The amount of times I just uttered 'Oh my god that baby's neck,'" a third person wrote. Another added: "Ummm, pretty sure that's not how you hold a baby."

However, not everyone saw anything wrong with the video, with some jumping to the two women's defense.

"Jesus, what is deeply unsettling is how sad so many of you housewife accounts are. This is the first time Kathy is seeing her grandchild and had no idea she was even going to be a grandmother.... I thought it was a very beautiful and genuine moment," someone commented.

"Am I missing something? lol I thought it was sweet," another said.

During the filming of the second season of her show, Paris Hilton shared her journey into motherhood, and explained why she didn't tell her family about having a baby.

"I've given my whole life to everyone for so long, it's just been really important to me to keep this a secret," she said in the trailer. "This is the first time that something is just mine."

On Thursday, Paris Hilton announced that she and her husband recently welcomed their second baby via surrogacy, a girl named London. This time, the only people who knew the couple were expecting another child were Paris Hilton's parents and her sister, Nicky Hilton.

"My parents did not know when it was happening; they just knew it was going to happen. So it was the best Thanksgiving surprise ever for everybody," Paris Hilton says in an upcoming episode of her show.

Paris Hilton shared London's arrival with the rest of the world on Instagram with a photo of pink pants and a pink collared shirt with her name scrawled across it. "Thankful for my baby girl," she captioned it.
