Laura Baxter is a young woman, literally a "sleeping beauty," who suffers from a medical condition called "parasomnia." A childhood accident victim, she is actually sleeping her life away, awakening briefly on rare occasions. Art student Danny Sloan falls in love with her, unaware that her hospital neighbor, a terrifying mass murderer and mesmerist named Byron Volpe has other, more sinister plans.

A guy in a mental hospital falls in love with a girl who basically sleeps all the time (#goals) and gets caught in a battle between her and a mentalist serial killer! This movie gets a really bad rap and I totally agree that the love story is cringey as hell, but I have a soft spot for William Malone’s work so overall I dug it more than most people would.
You can tell it suffered from major budget issues, but Malone has a good eye and neat ideas particularly when it comes to bizarre creatures. It’s also got a nice surreal, dreamlike feel to it that I always enjoy.

Art student Danny visits his friend Billy in the drug rehab ward of a hospital. Billy tells him about an interesting patient in the psych ward. Despite budget restraints and end results sometimes varying, every William Malone film I’ve seen has always had neat ideas.
I really liked this, I mean I cringed hard at the young lad kidnapping a patient who happens to be a very beautiful girl. Cream puff was the perfect description. Mate that is not how to woo a lady, but she woke up and dug him, so lets not dwell on the waking up to a stranger washing your boob. The romance!
The serial killer has such a presence, he sees humans as puppets to do what he says, and he can back it up. Hypnotizing them to do his bidding and or make them commit suicide. He looks brilliant those swelling black pupils are frightening.
The dreamscape world reminded me of a game, perhaps more so the film Cell. Yeah I really liked this, the little additions of the record shop banter, his rehab philosophic best friend, and steampunk!
As fairytales go there should be a happy ending, well eh, what would you say? eh so so.. no really.
Pretty things always have a tragic end. It's one of the laws of nature and only serves to make them more beautiful.

Ok, so… this is something that movies need to stop doing. An adult male falls “in love” for a hot girl that basically has the mind of a child. This is creepy as fuck. It isn’t the first film to do it. This is one fucking creepy ass relationship.
If the character of Laura would have been in full control of her mental capacity or just mentally mature it wouldn’t have changed the film that much, but it would have eliminated the creepiness of the relationship completely.

That was a special kind of dumb. How do you make someone fall in love with a woman who is comatose for 95% of her life? Make up some bullshit about how they were kids and he saw her one time and now they are linked or something. Then he kidnaps her from the hospital and he cares for her like a puppy while telling his buddy he's in love. How? Your "connection" is complete shit and she is so uneducated from being asleep that she functions with the mentality of a child. Is that love or a sick ageplay fetish? I CAN'T give this a lower rating than I did, because I honestly enjoyed it. Yes, the effects were terrible and so was some of the dialogue, but the story was interesting. I found this as an original indie horror flick I haven't seen before a million times in different forms.
Somehow the "nice guy" protagonist is even creepier than the serial killer nee hypnotist antagonist. The protagonist opens the movie visiting his buddy who is at the hospital for court mandated rehab, and while on his way to said friend, sees a young woman with parasomnia, as the film calls it. Fifth William Malone film of the year, so yeah, it's been a pretty good year. This appears to be his most recent effort, which is too bad. I don't know what he's been up to for the last 12 years, and while I wouldn't say I've loved any of his films, there is a certain quality to them that I appreciate.
