Amelia Kearney Obituary

Amelia Kearney, 91, Topeka, transitioned from labor unto reward on Monday, March 7, 2005. Amelia Kearney was born August 27, 1913, in Milliken, La., to the late Daniel L. Allen and Pearlie Allen. A native of Eudora, Ark., she was converted and confessed her belief in Jesus Christ as her Saviour and Lord in 1926 at the age of 13, and baptized into the fellowship of St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church. While at St. Peter, she was an active member of the choir and served as a Sunday school teacher. She remained a member of her home church unto death. She was recognized for her many years of service on several occasions in recent years. She moved to Topeka in January 1995 and lived with her daughter, Glenda Kearney DuBoise, and her son-in-law, Melvin. During her lifetime, Amelia was known by several "names of endearment" - Mama, Mother, Mamelia, Mother Kearney, Little Sister and Sister. She leaves to cherish her memory four sons, Rev. Joseph Clark and his wife, Ollie, an d Benjamin Clark, all of Kansas City, Mo., Howard Givens Sr. and his wife, Diane, Topeka, and Eric Dennis Kearney, Detroit; two daughters, Bessie L. Carter, Kansas City, Mo., and Glenda Kearney DuBoise and her husband, Melvin, Topeka; one goddaughter, Sweetie Reaves Robertson, Milwaukee; 25 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; three nieces; two nephews; a host of great-nieces and great-nephews; lifelong and close friends; the Antioch Church family members and those who knew and loved her as "Mother Kearney and Mama." Amelia was preceded in death by her parents; grand parents; two brothers; two sisters; two sons, Daniel L. Kearney and Rev. Dr. John H. Kearney Sr.;and a daughter, Dorothy Donaldson. Mrs. Kearney will lie in state from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Bowser-Johnson Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be celebrated at 6 p.m. Thursday at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 1100 S.E. Washington. She will lie in state after 4 p.m. The family will receiv e friends from 5 to 6 p.m. Final funeral services will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church in Eudora, Ark. She will lie in state after noon. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Burial will be at Hill's Cemetery in Eudora, Ark. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Bowser-Johnson Funeral Chapel of Topeka and Dillards Funeral Services of Eudora, Ark .
