Description

Pamaypay is the native Tagalog word for “fan” — this can be these heart-shaped fans or even a piece of paper or cardboard that you use to fan yourself.

These heart-shaped fans made from native leaves are sometimes also be called abaniko but these days when you say abaniko, the first thing that pops into people’s heads is the fancy folding fans that demure women used to fan themselves with in the olden days.

These fancy abaniko fans are still used of course — they’re sturdier and can fan bigger gusts of air that the flimsy regular pamaypay.

Pamaypay are now sometimes given as an accessory at Western weddings as well, particularly if the wedding takes place in the hot summer months or in the hotter regions. In fact, most of the orders on Amazon are for use at weddings! 🙂
