Side 1 has a really bad tape distortion in the left channel. I’m wondering if anyone else is experiencing this with their pressing. The vinyl is NM and I’m listening on Project Carbon Debut.

Seems I just heard of Otis Redding and then he was dead. His career was just getting into high gear, and his biggest hit, 'Dock of the Bay' was released posthumously. A poignant note to end on...would have been a poignant note to begin on, if only.

Redding's voice possessed an integrity that is unheard today. 'I've Been Loving You Too Long' is both beautiful and painful to listen to, it is executed so well by the band coupled by Redding's sincere voice. The real sleeper on this album is 'Try a Little Tenderness', with its perfect arrangement that starts so slow and easy and ends with Otis nearly losing it. It's a great song, but I have never heard it done better than Otis and the Stax boys.

It's sad really. Most of these songs became classics after the fact of Redding's death. Admittedly, Aretha Franklin successfully stole Otis's own 'Respect', but Redding's version is no slacker either. This is a fine compilation of Redding's music. Too bad we didn't get to hear more of that voice.
